Just how long can I use disposable contacts?

Hello,

I have daily disposable contacts, but I only use them for a couple hours at a time, once a week or so. I feel like it's such a waste to use them for three hours and then throw them away, and I only use them like once a week.

So is it possible to use them say twice or thrice if I only use them for a couple hours at a time and keep them in solution in between use?

my guess is that it's ok. i use my bi-weekly contacts much longer than i'm supposed to. just keep them clean, i suppose.

Boil them in lemon juice and stick 'em back on your eyeballs. They'll be fine. You'll be blind, of course, but the contact lenses will be just fine.

Anything past 4 weeks for biweekly contacts, your eyes will begin to burn.

Just don't sleep with them, that will shorten their lifespan.

I wear the 2 week disposables. I usually only wear them on weekends, my job involves solvent fumes and pigment/resin dust at times so no good at work. I usually use them for at least 4 weeks. They're supposed to be OK for 2 weeks including overnight, so it's not a problem.

you have the o2 optics?

I've used some for months straight, but I'm sure to clean them every night and leave them out for 8-12 hours.

same here

contact lensens are like a sponge . . . they soak up the crap and interefere with the oxygen transfer to your eyes.

2 weeks lenses are ment to be used to 2 weeks - 12 hours a day. i use mine for a month 'cause i wear them about half that 😉
[change em on the 1st of every month]

it's your eyes . . . contact lenses are CHEAP in comparison
:Q

I don't think dailies are supposed to be put in solution to be kept anyway, so it's a bad plan in all likelihood.
Eyes > money.
You can buy contact lenses, you can't buy eyes quite so easily.

not sure what you mean about that.
😕

Daily-wear lenses are usually kept for a periods specified by the manufacturer. If you keep them in your solution, the lens case needs to be opened up and solution changed every 30 days.

Hmm- Yea- that's my biggest question. After wearing daily disposables for say 2 hours, can I put them back in solution and use it again later? I understand that two-week disposables can be reused since they're "made" to be constantly taken out, put into solution, and then back in your eyes. But daily disposables, I dunno if they're "made" to be taken out and put into solution for reuse . . .

read your manufacturer's instructions . . . they are very specific.

i believe single use lenses - 1 day - can be reused [but they are a bit more fragile and take a little more care in handling]

why not? as long as the solution is a disinfecter

There was something on a news program a long time ago. The "dailys" are made fromt eh same stuff and machine as the others. They are juts not tested? to have a longer life. Kinda like a Athlon64 and Opteron are the same but with a little tweak and more testing.

As long as you use a cleaning solution and don;t wear when you sleep the dailys will last I think a GOOD month or longer. Might also depedn on the maker, but I think this fits MOST

Slept with bi-weekly ones two nights in a row and had to throw them out that morning

whatever you "think", err on the side of caution . . . taking into account your optometrist's and the mfg's recommendations. 😉
