For being such a good employee the company sent me an Opteron 165. I removed my 4200+ X2 (2.2@2.5) and put the Opty in my DFI lanparty UltraD-Sli + 2x7800gtx sli + 4x512 ddr ram. This is my work rig, used to be a gaming rig but because I needed triple or sometimes quadriple display I started using it as a work rig.
So, the old 4200+ X2 was kinda lying around along side with an old Gigabyte 939 SLi motherboard.
I decided to make a cheap fun rig.
Went out today and bought:
- 280Euro Asus 7900GT
- 20Euro generic case
- 15Euro DVD player
also went to a friend, electrician, and showed him how to voltmod my card. He did it in 5 mins, clean job with a special wire, not like the diagrams show sh*tload of soldering going around.
So final rig turned out something like this:
? AMD Athlon X2 4200+ (dual 2200mhz 512mb cashe cores) working at 2530mhz (11x230mhz) - couple of hours Prime95 stable (2 instances, 1 per core)
? Asus 7900GT voltmoded, perfect at 700mhz core / 1774 memmory
? 2 x 1GB Geil value? DDR400mhz at 5/6 with FSB @ 191Mhz (ddr 382)
? Gigabyte K8NS UltraD Sli
? LC Power 650W Psu w/ 1x120mm fan
? 300GB Maxtor PATA 16mb cashe
? Generic case
? Stock cooler from Opteron 165
? 1 case fan, 80mm
? 19" L90D+ 19" LCD Hynday 1280x1024
3dMark2006 scores:
SM2.0: 2806
HDR/SM3.0: 2681
CPU Score: 1874
Final 3dMark06 score: 6412 3dMarks
3dMark06 score with 2x7800Gtx Gainward golden sample in SLI: 70xx
With better ram this can go up to 6800 probably..
Final words:
the 7900GT is an awesome card! 280Euro blows away 2x7800GTX Gainward Golden Sample cards that I paid 1200Euro 6-7 months ago! Totally recommend this card! The best value for me in a long long time!
Btw forgot to mention, I removed the old cooler and re-used a Zalman VF700-Cu I had from a previous Abit ati rx800xt
