Just heard my brand new Antec PSU's death rattle...

Put in the new motherboard and got everything back in place, turned on the computer and BOOM...fizzzzz... in a flash of blue light and puff of smoke my power supply passed on. A brand new Antec TruePower 480. Shame. Does this happen often with Antecs? If so, I think I'll tell the guy I want an enermax instead.

Seems a few people have had problems with the TruePower series. I never had a problem with the earlier Antec.

this is about the fourth post on the "Exploding capacitor" issue on true-powers. Apparently they had a bad batch of filter caps. When they short and blow they explode like a firecracker. the antec rep is a forum member and notes they had some probs with first run. they will give you a no hassle replacement, and the next one you get will be fine. its a shame a needed innovation - separate rails for three main voltages to prevent droop under load, is marred by minor problem.

in other words, if your true-power runs for a day, it will run for years

this was after about 3 days of use...

anyway, I'm a little worried about getting another from the same place... and I really don't wanna pay the 10 bucks it'd cost to ship this heavy bastid out to Antec...

Have you contacted Antec yet? I've heard that their customer service is great, so I'm sure they'll cover the return shipping charges, especially considering its a defective product.

precisely - you won't be out anything - just time

after a few days burn in, these PSU run rock solid on highly overclocked systems.
