Just had my first Toblerone

This is Los Angeles. They only ever carry mass market popular stuff here unless you go to a specialty store. Just like beers, they carry only the big stuff and if you want something not as well known you have to go to a place that's smaller and more expensive.

Just double checking. She is not allergic to nuts right? It contains Almond and you can basically assume it may have come into contact with peanuts.

I don't think I have ever been in a supermarket here without seeing Toblerone.


P.S. You are not ready for the 4.5KG one. Seriously, do not get the 23,000 Calorie chocolate bar.

Toblerones have been around forever (at least here here in central texas), and frankly they're nothing special.

I would rate them well below the "nothing special" level. They're really mild, almost like chocolate for people that don't like chocolate. I like brands with a little more oomph to the flavor.

I think Toblerone has 28% cocoa content. Your standard chocolate bar.

Boo to Hershey Chocolate company to try to call something a chocolate candy when there is no cocoa content.

Fixed that for you. And even then, 28% is on the low side for milk chocolate, many brands use 30% on their milk chocolate and some even higher. Real chocolate is more like 38-42%. Maybe it's the honey or the little pieces of nuts, but to my palate Toblerone tastes weaker than other brand with similar cocoa content.

Well, the main reason why I don't care for Toblerones is because they're more like a candy (instead of just chocolate). Whenever I eat Toblerones, they have all this stuff inside them and ends up sticking to my teeth. This never happens with a normal chocolate bar. I tend to prefer the softer chocolate bars (which is the number one reason why I like milka so much) as to the hard oddly shaped toblerone.

I just don't understand why american chocolates taste vastly different to the european chocolates. Not to sound like a snob or anything, but there's a level of flavor there that your average hershey bar just can never match. Perhaps there's chocolate bars out there that match or come close, I just haven't tried them yet.

Toblerone has the Dark variety that has 70% cocoa. In fact I was eating some of it yesterday. It's excellent if you like higher percentage cocoa.

They also have a white chocolate variety that's just plain nasty. White chocolate should be against the law. I guess is supposed to be chocolatey tasting .
Remember what George Carlin said about chocolatey.

"Any time marketers add a 'y' to the name of a food, you can be sure they're yanking your schwantz. 'Real chocolatey goodness.' Translation? No fuckin' chocolate!"

I also saw a Toblerone called Fruit and Nut but I haven't tried that one. I just picked up two dark and one regular of the 400g bars when I was at the airport.

Trader Joe's carries it, pretty much everyone does. Try a candy store, they're bound to have it.

I don't remember seeing them until recently, and I don't think I've ever had one. Ferrero Rocher is in the supermarket checkouts around here though. Weird.

It's the cocoa content

Hershey is a candy bar. The premise behind it is to provide poorer people a taste of cocoa.

Toblerone is also a candy bar, albeit better.
