Possibly the most dangerous earthquake zone in North America (along with the southern San Andreas fault).

Talk of the Big One gets brought up quite often. The amazing thing here is that within the time it took me to google Earthquake, the data was the first result. I was impressed.

There was a 5.2 in northern Alberta yesterday. Making more mountains perhaps.

Hah, that's a yawner here in earthquake country.
Vancouver is very much also earthquake country. In fact, the last big one in the Cascadia subduction zone was an estimated ~ M9.0 . In contrast, the southern San Andreas probably maxes out at M8.0, BUT it would transmit so much energy westward into highly populated greater L.A. that it could devastate the area.

Tell me about it. I’m on the coast…at maybe 15’ elevation…tsunami central.

I read that in around 1700 there was a cascadia earthquake that caused tsunami in Japan.
I was just joking that 5's where I live are rather commonplace. But if you've never felt one, it can be unnerving.

I remember the earthquake in 1964 that hit Crescent city, CA but that was from Alaska.
That link i posted shows that 4 of the 20 biggest earthquakes were from Alaska.

I miss Dr. Kate Hutton. Here in SoCal it was never an official earthquake until Dr. Kate was interviewed about it
