Just had an MRI, anyone else have one? Almost bumped into H Ross Perot???

Jesus, it was like being in a freaking coffin, had to close my eyes & listen to the radio.

During the bone scan, I had to stare @ the ceiling, and they had a beautiful mural on the ceiling that really reminded me of the killing chambers in Soylent Green.

Was wandering in the main entrance & almost ran into this guy, turned & looked & it was H Ross Perot, I was so surprised, I turned to the lady @ the reception desk & asked "Was that?" & whe said "Yes, it was him."

The kept taking extra views of my arm during the bone scan, my Ortho Doc thinks it may have some infection in it🙁

yeah i had one a year ago.

they had to keep redoing it. i couldn't lay still in that darn thing. something about a machine humming 2 inches above you is unnerving.

LOL @ Soylent Green comment.

I have a bunch of metal in my body...and I've had five MRIs.

(titanium)

LOL @ Soylent Green comment.

I've got a 10 inch long titanium plate & 7 bolts, ans long as the metal isn't ferrous (non-magnetic) they can do MRI's on you. Although the titanium plate did produce some crazy artifacts on the image.

MRIs suck. I had a series of about 5 or 6 them about 3 years ago. I think I became claustrophobic during that time period.

It's my third time in MRI. First one for head trauma which wasnt necessary but my doctor demanded. It turned out negative/nothing.

Second and third for my backpain. I still hate mri cuz i m claustrophobic but getting used to it after 3rd time

Had one to verify a torn rotator cuff. I came really close to falling asleep.

Was Ross with a bunch of body guards or what? Think he would have given an autograph? I voted for him in '92. The Dems can thnk him for putting Clinton in office. I'll NEVER vote for a third party candidate again, no matter how good he is. Gotta get elected to effect any change... although Jesse Ventura does cause pause...

Had one on my ankle 2 years ago. The worst thing is when your body starts itching and you can't scratch it. I thought i was gonna die.

I've had two MRIs. Lower then upper back & neck, they were looking for swelling or bone spurs. I also almost went to sleep. I've work in tight quarters on noisy machinery
so I guess that makes a differance........:sun:

Nope, he was just walking out of the building. I heard him say hello to the receptionist, recognized his voice, turned to see it was him. All I could think of was the SNL skit where Dana Carvy was pretending to be him & rode Chris Farley, screaming "Ride him wild pig boy." or something like that. I imagine he was visiting someone or is on the board of directors @ Baylor.

I'm sure he would have given an autograph, but I don't collect them & all I had was the new Car & Driver with me. I was too shocked to do much of anything anyway.

Never had an MRI, but I can vouch for the noise. I work at a private hospital, we've got MRI and CT machines here.

Always seeing sports stars here, from West Ham, Tottenham etc, as it's their "local" private hospital.

Confused

I work with a 3 Tesla GE MRI scanner every day of the week.
Im also a man-whore for science and sign up as a volunteer for studies involving the scanner.
Free brain, heart, and knee MRI's all around! Plus you get paid to do silly things like follow a dot as it moves across the screen or decide if a scene is an indoor scene or outdoor scene. I think functional MRI scans pay you like 80 bux/hour while normal MRI's of any body part are 60bux/hour. Easy money and all you gotta do is be alcohol/drug free
Studies done in DC area at NIH

You get used to it by the 50th or 60th time you do it.
Although I've scanned 100s of people already and I sometimes forget that some people like you get clautrophobic in there.
BTW, it's really not that bad if you can think of something else while youre in the scanner. The best thing to do actually is sleep. Oh, and ask for earplugs next time. Those headphones suck and dont really work too well to drown out the ambient noise.
And if you REALLY want an excuse to be worried, I wouldnt think too much about the buzzing sound. Just realize that when youre in there, you are surrounded by a ton of metal that is bathed in liquid helium and there is VERY little distance separating your body from it.

I had one for my back. It's just like crawling under a car to change the oil. If anything, that's the place to be if the building collapsed!

The tech said that some people won't even enter the room...they see the machine and turn the other way. Others try crawling out the other end. Some people simply freak out and start thrashing to get out.

There was a case somewhere a year or so ago where someone wheeled a cart with a O2 bottle on it into a MRI unit when it was on. Pulled the O2 bottle off the cart and sucked it into the machine killing the little girl inside.

Guess it was a boy

torn meniscus in my knee

how big were his ears?

They were pretty big.

I should find out the results in a few days, shoulder MRI's are pretty much to confirm a physical exam & give them an idea where to go & what the rest of your shoulder looks like.

Am a little more worried about the bone scan, they took a couple extra pics of it, I suspect they'll take out the plate in my arm.
