I had a job interview with a bank for a development analyst position. It requires little app development but mainly admin and database admin. The hiring manager is my point of contact and the vp of info system is the person who will ultimatley make the decision to hire me. Anyway I had the first interview with the VP and the hiring manager and they were quite impressed. They called me back for a 2nd interview and it went OK but not as OK as the first. They asked a lot of database specific questions about technical SQL questions.

There were certian questions that I didn't have an answer for and they told me it was OK. They told me at the end of the interview that not to worry about these questions too much and they aren't that necessary???? The other employee who was there said she didn't know anything about this stuff when she started working there. They said these kinds of things they would fill in the gaps if I'm hired.

Anyway the hiring manager emailed me back and stated she hope everything went well and they wanted to know my references? She also emailed me back to see if they were ok to contact? She also asked me this question.....

Do you have any concerns at this point and where might your interest level be with this position at this point?

How do you answer this and why would you be asked this????

it means "do you still want this job or should we not bother progressing further"

Regarding not needing to know certain questions, that's true to some degree. They probably want to know your current level of knowledge, more for informational than evaluational purposes. Especially for entry level/out of college jobs, they're looking for how you approach a problem rather than the actual approach.

Regarding the the last question, some hiring people are more involved than others, and I'm guessing this person simply wants to know if there's anything that could be a possible obstacle to you wanting the position. If there are any criteria which are important to choosing a job that haven't been answered, you should bring this up. For example, "could you tell me about advancement opportunities or possible career tracks within your organization?" would be a good question. As for interest level, I don't think anyone would really say they aren't interested, as that's just stupid.

From our interviews and the interviews I've been to, if you're to the part where they're asking for the references, you're pretty much in. The last question is just what Ns1 said ... are you still interested

OP-- sounds like you got the job. As others have stated those questions are normal for this phase of the interview process.

Just curious, though-- what state do you live in? It seems most of the banks around here are cutting staff... not hiring.
