And yes, I do think this needs its own thread.
I was grabbing a pop and a snack at my local gas station and there was a guy wearing a TSA jacket at the counter. Me being me, I couldn't help but say hi. He was a really nice guy and was very open to talk about the TSA. As politely as I could, I asked him about all the drama going on right now. He said that our airport (Gerald R Ford International) does have the body scanners and has had them since August.
That's fine and all but what about the children being strip searched? He said they would never strip search anyone, especially a child. Then he brought up the point that every single part of the airport is on CCTV and there would be videos all over the place if that was happening. He said that if it goes far enough that someone needs to be strip searched, they would just call the police and get them to do that. He said that 99% of the time when you hear about that kind of thing, its blown out of proportion. I do agree with that.
Then he did something completely unexpected: he invited me in to check things out. He said that he gets personally offended when people make these kinds of assumptions and accusations. He said he would love for anyone with concerns to visit their local TSA and talk with them. That does make much more sense than debating about things we have no first hand knowledge of. He specifically asked me to ask my friends to go check things out for themselves. Since I am an internet nerd single dad, this is my version of that.
All in all, I was very impressed. I was a total stranger asking him hardcore questions about a very bleak subject and he was very kind and open. :thumbsup; for the TSA and this guy.
