just had a chat with a TSA supervisor...

And yes, I do think this needs its own thread.

I was grabbing a pop and a snack at my local gas station and there was a guy wearing a TSA jacket at the counter. Me being me, I couldn't help but say hi. He was a really nice guy and was very open to talk about the TSA. As politely as I could, I asked him about all the drama going on right now. He said that our airport (Gerald R Ford International) does have the body scanners and has had them since August.

That's fine and all but what about the children being strip searched? He said they would never strip search anyone, especially a child. Then he brought up the point that every single part of the airport is on CCTV and there would be videos all over the place if that was happening. He said that if it goes far enough that someone needs to be strip searched, they would just call the police and get them to do that. He said that 99% of the time when you hear about that kind of thing, its blown out of proportion. I do agree with that.

Then he did something completely unexpected: he invited me in to check things out. He said that he gets personally offended when people make these kinds of assumptions and accusations. He said he would love for anyone with concerns to visit their local TSA and talk with them. That does make much more sense than debating about things we have no first hand knowledge of. He specifically asked me to ask my friends to go check things out for themselves. Since I am an internet nerd single dad, this is my version of that.

All in all, I was very impressed. I was a total stranger asking him hardcore questions about a very bleak subject and he was very kind and open. :thumbsup; for the TSA and this guy.

end corporate lobby money, stop telling businesses who they can serve, stop overthowing other countries for oil profits, and stop throwing innocent recreational drug users into the same system as serial killers and i would bet you the terrorists would stop attacking us. just listen to their reasoning, they dont hate america, they hate what we have become. as so do a lot of us americans do to, for the very same reasons.

You, sir, are an idiot. That is all.

So long as america has more power than they do, they will hate america. Hell, so long as america is composed of people that look or act differently than they do, they will hate america.

Absolutely the most uninformed statement I've heard this month.

Uh...When did the TSA ever strip search anyone ... unless they had a really good reason to do it. They are not strip searching they are patting down and in doing so are getting right up there with the family jewels. So... It's not the strip off your cloths and grab your cheeks, bend over and cough. (yeah I use to be a corrections officer).

TSA lost and found folks(Dulles Airport) are morons. Trying to explain something in simple everyday english is a lesson in futility.

Let's face it, it's become hip to mock airport security now. People always have to go to extremes, because they're dumb. After 9/11 people thought terrorists were going to attack Little Rock city hall. Now they've swung the other way and don't think terrorists could ever use plastic explosives.

Only idiots did. Unfortunately there are a lot of idiots.

I don't doubt the local TSA agents seem ok. The problem is those in the top of the TSA and putting down new rules that do not increase safety. I be willing to bet a large % of lowwer level TSA agents hate the BS they have to do.

Germans were nice people too, doesn't mean we didn't have to do all those things to them 70 years ago. One's duty requires a defense of one's nation and one's liberties. The consequences of failing result in a lot of good people dying.

I'm talking about the damn police state. No amount of 'they're good folks' makes up for the tyranny.

of course they aren't strip searching

"The woman who checked me reached her hands inside my underwear and felt her way around," she said. "It was basically worse than going to the gynecologist. It was embarrassing. It was demeaning. It was inappropriate."

They like it with the clothes ON

The people might be alright, it's the policies they enforce that are the problem. I'm actually planning to do some research and write a thoughtful letter to the White House about it. Napolitano is appointed, so that's about all we can do until the next election. Not that I expect anything will come of it directly unless a few thousand other people have the same idea, but at least my conscious will be clear.

Even dumber is the fact that they don't think a terrorist willing to blow himself up won't shove those plastic explosives up their ass, completely defeating our new and improved security. But on the bright side, we know damn good and well that the flight attendants prosthetic tit (required after surviving breast cancer) is NOT a danger to the plane and little johny doesn't have a suicide vest on.

If I know how to defeat your security measures within a week of them being implemented, albeit very uncomfortably, then your security is fucked up.
