Just went up on newegg, and I had to jump on it.

I think most people will say the extra vram is foolish, and alot of the benchmarks will prove it, but I remember with my old GTX 580 SLI setup that 1.5 GB just wasnt enough sometimes for triple monitor resolutions. Someone convince me I made the right choice.

Also, where should my i7 be clocked to take advantage of these ? Had it up to 4.0 at one point, but I've knocked it down to 3.5 for a couple reasons.

in 1 or 2 years games will use more than 2gb with high textures, so yea it was a good decision if you plan on holding on to em. If you upgrade every year than yes it might not be useful. My 5870 is now limited by its 1gb of Vram.🙁

For SLI 4gb is a good move IMO. They're not gouging in price for them. What is it, $50 extra per card? That's $25 per gig. Not bad considering it's expensive GDDR5.

All of that said, your GPUs will be near the end of their useful life before you need that much vram. You'll probably get an extra 6 months to 1 year out of the cards because of it.

OP you should get your i7 up to 4.5ghz if it's a Sandy Bridge or newer.

Wow, I'm surprised at all the positive posts about this pruchase, I was expecting alot more "overkill" posts.

I plan on doing some benchmarking with triple monitor, not for fps, but keeping an eye on Mem usage.

Basically if I can show that a number of games use > 2048 mb or VRAM, then I can say it was worth it.

Just thinking earlier how my first video card purchase (7800GT) had just 256mb of ram, I now have 16X that. Unreal right ?
