Well it's my last day working in a temp job where I am not IT staff....thank god...back to interesting stuff from monday.
Anyway...I realised that the PC I was on today was getting very warm...the whole desktop case and the back of the power supply was burning hot...I realised that these IBM's have temperature controlled fans inside that cool both the PSU and P4 and speed up when things get hotter and it was not working at all by the sound of it.
So I told the IT supervisor here and was most impressed by her suggestion to put a desktop fan blowing on it at the back.......hmmm...great....a 12in fan sitting behind it....PROBLEM SOLVED!....I think not...when I told her that there is normally a fan on power supplies to push the hot air out and that having something blowing it back in would be bad.....I got a confused look....
No doubt she is paid more than a lot of us here.....I remember when she was setting up the in house software, she must have done it at least a 100 times yet needed to work off a sheet and call up another office for guidance.
