I clean my Nikkon 4 high index lenses for my glasses with dish detergent and water and have never had a problem. I can't beleive that DVDs are more sensitive.

You and sygyzy, don't be stupid. If a little soap[ and warm water will save you a trip to the store, after you've already settled in to watch a movie, why the hell not? It doesn't hurt a damn thing anyway.

I always ask to see the dvd before I pay to make sure it at least looks fine, no sense in borrowing one that's all scratched up and doesn't even look like it's going to play. It's usually more of a problem with kiddy movies or action ones, I wonder what that says about the people who borrow them.

The paper towel could be abrasive, but you probably did more good than harm.

Ultimately, you're not going to win this battle with the manager.

A car will perform the same dirty and with scratches as it will clean. Your point is moot.

Next time call up the store and tell them they have 5 minutes to get to your place to wipe off the Disc.

I just laid it on the paper towel and pressed straight down. I didn't rub it.

Do rental companies rent cars with flat tires and busted out windshields?

By any chance was this Blockbuster? 95% of all non-new releases I rent there look like they have been used for frisbees by a group of 6 year olds who have just got done eating PBJ sandwiches. One was so bad with the skipping, I had to clean it and then make a backup copy(deleted afterwards of course) to even make it viewable

No,rent at a local grocery store. At $4.00 a pop, I shouldn't have to go back to the store 3 times!

Why are you getting all pissy over this? I was trying to ask a legitimate question. Maybe next time the OP won't disclose his cleaning habits to the people who own the property he rents.

I've "fixed" alot of my CD's just by washing them with soap and water. Most of the time its just dirt and fingerprints that made them skip. There's absolutely nothing wrong with what you did... They're the ones renting out defective products and inconveniencing you.

soap and water is a lot of work for a little bit of cleaning. just a breath and my shirt is enough to clean it - there's generally very little that takes more than that on a disk.
