All games should come in DVD style packaging. They stack up alongside my DVDs much neater that way.

i try installing it and it gets bout 30 seconds into the first disc when it gives me a read error and tells me to check the disc to make sure its clean
i did that and even copied the whole cd onto the hard drive to see if the disc was readable and i was able to but it still won't install
any ideas before i return the game?

Could could always try making a backup of the cd and see if it works better. I would just return it if it is convenient for you to do.

it must be microsofts fault, somehow they did it.

It is, it is! My copy of WinXP Pro (OEM) came in a paper sleeve, I was pissed. My old copy of Win95B came in a jewel case, Win98 and 2k in a cardboard sleeve, and now paper! :| :p

No, seriously, paper sleeves suck. Jewel cases cost pennies and give the customer value. This is just another bad move by the software companies, kind of like pdf manuals...

If you read Penny Arcade, you'll notice that Tycho hasn't shut the hell up about UT2k3 crashing on him due to that constantly. Being unable to install it just smokes the floppy one though. It should install if copied to the HD - use CloneCD to read the subchannel data, then mount it using Daemon Tools and install. Enjoy.

Copy protection? A friend of mine downloaded the full game..all 3 Cd's... and also has a key gen. Works perfect for him.

I take a magic marker and write the CD key on the CD.

Bet he can't play online tho. Keygen won't help you with that.

I disagree. Every new DVD seems to come with a new retention mechanism, some of them are down right scary. My T2 DVD is just about wrecked because of the goofy way it's mounted. :( I want DVD's in CD jewel cases!

Just to explain the paper sleeves, this is most likely because of the smaller packaging. With the industry moving to the smaller box, jewel cases take up a lot of excess space in said smaller boxes.

/whine...

Besides, paper sleeves will allow your CD to flex/bend... jewl cases... CD's SNAP right inside the case.

I have to carry lots of CDs around, and I'd rather have sleeves bouncing around in a book bag...

it does work
the ingame server browser doesn't work, but if you use gamespy or if you know the IP of the server you want to play on, it works fine

Anyone know what drivers are incorperated with the game? Mine said my drivers were out dated and it would load the latest set. I have the 29.xx drivers. What version comes with the game?

All software should be packaged in vanilla envelopes. This will cut down on the costs of packaging, and therefore the cost of the software to the consumer. Also, envelopes take up less shelf space, while the face of the envelope can still be used to market the product (and is bigger than typical software boxes, and therefore draws more attention).

So I was actually joking when I thought of this, but after thinking about it some more, it is a good idea!

They didn't even update the graphics.. looks like UT and Unreal to me. Better textures, a few more polygons.. but even Quake 3 looked better in some ways. At least the gameplay is there.

Have you looked at Q3 lately?

That engine is seriously dated, & it shows.

Well, I got UT2k3 today and, no paper sleeves. Mine came in a DVD style case. :) Maybe it's because I live in Canada, or more likely, it depends on which place you buy it from.
