This TV is AMAZING as it is, but I wonder if it can be made to look better. Right now it's sitting in my tiny bedroom (way too big for this room), but it will eventually go in the living room of my new house.

Was debating between this and the 550, and honestly, didnt really get it for the 120Hz. Saw it at local BB and fell in love with the glossy screen. Never experienced 120Hz before so it seems kinda weird to me - motion seems kinda fast at times, a little unnatural - hard to explain. But I love the way it looks. Watching Lord of War on it right now and am loving every minute of it! Maybe I'll get used to the automotion with time

Does anyone have any tips on how to calibrate it properly? Or should I wait till I set it up at my new house (in a month or so) before bothering to calibrate it?

reading thru the 650 thread now. So you tried the 550 setting on the 650 and it worked better? Or do you have a 550?

Only one I tried was the 550 setting on my 450, I just cant use anything other then Dynamic and then some tweaks to backlight etc. The OSD even says Dynamic is for bright rooms and HD picture so thats what I use. Anything other then Dynamic and IMHO the picture looks like pure shit its like you dont even have an HDTV. There are people though who posted the 550 setting was great on 450 models. 😕
 
Hmm, I have the 650 so I'll have to look into it. I haven't touched my calibration settings. Just using it out of the box so far.

The 120 hz refresh is one aspect but the contrast ratio is higher also. I saw the 650 next to a 550 without the "auto motion" and I could see a difference in the picture do to the higher contrast ratio too. You can always shut off the "auto motion" feature.

 
The odd thing about those super higher contrast ratios stated on the plasmas lately is the fact I saw an LCD 46" 650 series Sammy at 50,000:1 next to the plasma 50" Sammy with 1,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio running the same BR source. And even after playing around with them a bit, the plasma was not that much darker or even more detailed. They appeared nearly identical in terms of black levels. It was certainly not what I expected to see given that massive difference. It really makes you wonder what those engineers are smoking that come up with these specs just to sell more plasma TVs.
 
Might be.

I've notice black levels not so good on some pictuers and good on others. I wonder if tweaking the calibration can improve the black levels. I'm a noob at calibrating tho.

Contrast ratio = white level
Brightness = black level

However, even with that...I would never try to compare dynamic contrast ratios...try to find the legit contrast ratio and use that. For instance the 1000000:1 plasmas are actually 30,000:1.
