Well i discovered the beautiful sony gdm-fw900 about a year ago and went on an adventure to try and find one. I got one off ebay but it arrived broken and i ended up waiting about 4 months for my check from ups. Well that finally arrived so i tried a more professional company and picked up a used one for $800 including shipping. Well i hooked it up and WOOOWIE! This thing is absolutely amazing. I put it next to my good old nec fp1350 22 incher and it looked really dark and the color seemed messed up, so i went to work on the settings... well 2 days later this is what i ended up with settings wise.

Heres what my good old desktop is lookin like

If someone could critic my settings and tell me what to put, change to, reccomend... that would be PERFECT! I cant figure out the best reolution to be putting it at, cant figure out what i should be putting brightness at... ugh...

Also included in the screen shots above is settings for powerdvd, what should i put it at to get a good aspect ratio for watching movies? heres what it looks like on the settings above.

Also heres what it looks like using widescreen resolutions on HL2...

Not bad eh?

The last thing im having problems with is games that have a max resolution of 1600X1200... or no widescreen resolutions. In games like SWAT 4 this is what its looking like...

Its moving the picture down, not filling up the hole screen (of coarse), and bending the picture. I could go through and adjust all the monitor settings but then as soon as i get back to desktop im screwed.

Right now with the bightness im putting it up to like 70 on desktop, and putting it down to 40 for movies and games... this isnt fun...

also sorry about the picture quality i had to use my phone (lg vx8000) my rebel xt is in the mail!

Thank you so much and please tell any info you have! THANKS!!!

Have u fix it? if not i could help you a lill'. looking at your settings, looks like u have pretty screwed monitor hopefully not. first thing first lets go with calibration

1. turn on only the monitor u want to calibrate.
2. set your room light the way you normally use
3. lets the monitor warmed up normally takes 30min to an hour
4. set your wallpaper to plain black confirm that it has red green and blue to 0 and set the color to default i believe it is 9.3k on your monitor setting
5. adjust your contrast setting, i reckon to use the default which normally at max.
6. set the brightness to max then use center function to uncenter the screen untill u can see the black border (unused area). use any side u like top, buttom, left or right. i suggest top right to hide icons on the left and task at the bottom.
7. now slowly adjust the brightness down untill your black background color just looks exactly the same with the black border. at this moment u should not be able to spot borders. my brightness setting (same monitor fw900) is around 27-30
8. change background color to white confirm red green and blue are 255 and recenter the screen.
9. time to set monitor color setting, by default 5k should make image warmer (reddish), 9.3k cooler (blueish) and 6.5k just a lill warmer but very close to pure white. from 6.5k adjust the color using easy setting up untill u satisfy with the white. mine is set at 8.4k

ok ure done.

btw make sure no software color enhancement is being used during calibration such as gamma, digital vibrance or brightness and contras settings through video card driver.

hopefully this will help.

im just using a standard radioshack cable right now... are you sure theres gonna be a diffrence?

yeah basically i went through all the settings and kept changing them to try and get them as close to my secondary monitor as possible... and i havent touched them since... but i am going to be reformating soon so i might just take your adive and change it up... but right now the brightness is sitting right in the middle of the two i stated before...

and concerning reolutions... i did some resarch and testing and figured out that the settings you change when in a game go away when you go back to desktop... duh...

so anyways ive either started just stretching the image from a high resolution... or i found a website that provides hacks for widescreen resolutions for nearly all games... rockin
