LOL no xbl or even downloading a music album?

What about things you will need to DL that are educational/necessary?

When I was in the dorms, they blocked Xbox Live. Everyone stormed to IT with torches and pitchforks. It was unblocked later that week.

oh 1999-2000 was a good year. just when the good services became widely available and just as they were trying to restrict them.

I remember my freshman year back in 1998; had just moved into my dorm at a small private university, and immediately began making use of the campus-wise broadband. It was a helluva boost compared to the 56k I'd had at home before that.

Edit: forgot to mention that the first networked game I played there was Duke Nuke'em. Ahh, the memories.

How true is any of that?

Yep. About three years ago when I was in we had basically everything but port 80 blocked and a total transfer of 1gb/day.

The way it should be if you are browsing on the schools dime.

If he wants better internet, then the OP should get his own place and internet connection.

I was a freshman too in 1998 and everyone had CS LAN games going most every night. We had no bandwidth cap back in those days like you suckers do now, heh.

I lived in college dorms from 1999 till 2002 (it was a small residential, liberal arts school) and we had unrestricted highspeed internet. But the real kicker was, we had an open network that allowed people to share whatever they wanted on it. Music, movies, tv episodes, even porn!

 he pays for the internet in tuition and dorm fees.

His education, not his internet connection.

Tuition means instruction or teaching. In American English, the term tuition is often used to refer to a fee charged for educational instruction; especially at a formal institution of learning or by a private tutor usually in the form of one-to-one tuition.

And it is still the universities network. They can limit it however they chose, and he should not be able to say a god damn thing about it.

I don't have any sort of cap or whatever, just some worthless webfilter that tries to block porn since we're a Christian school. I say tries, any idiot can still google image search, and it doesn't stop you from using a proxy or BT at all. It's just downright silly, either do it right or don't bother at all.... and it's impossible to do it right and still have internet access.

But I digress, my school's internet is more or less awesome
