Just got rejected for a credit card :(

I applied for the amazon CC and got rejected..

I have never had a credit card, and alaways used a debit card for all my purchases. I am 21 started working full time, make over 50k/y and have over 10k in my checking/savings. I assume I was rejected becasue i have no prior credit history. Can anyone recommend a "starter" card that I will def be approved for and has a decent points/reward program? Thanks for any help.

I just got an amex Blue Cash with no probs at all and i have limited credit history.
Now that you've been rejected you should be receiveing a document that tells you who they went through and you can get a FREE credit report back about your credit history. Get that done and make sure nothing bad is on there or mis-represented.

You make 50K/yr? What do you do? For someone that's 21 years old, that's VERY good.

Network Consulting in NYC

"Consulting?" To me, that means "Feast or Famine." Do you work on commission, or are you salaried?

Be careful if you work for commission; that money has a bad habit of drying up FAST just when you buy stuff.

That's the problem. It's probably empty. 🙂

Salaried, with full benefits

Say what?
Did you do something bad in the past?
I don't see a reason they reject your request.
But once you got rejected, I don't think you can apply for a card again in 6 months.
Or is it only when you got accepted?
Anyway, you don't want an Amazon CC, go for a Citi reward card that gives you 5% for gas, supermarket, etc.

quit using the debit card already. use cc EACH AND EVERY time. then pay it off every month.
when u can, get a points cc like citi diamond preferred.

walla! awesome credit.

Secured Credit Card

Yup, just get a secured card from your local credit union. What a secured credit card is is basically you putting down collateral of say $1000.00. Then you'll get issued a secured credit card which will have a credit limit of 1k. If you default on the credit card your $1k that you put down for collateral will be taken and you will not be getting it back. After one year of on time payments, and no delinquent marks on your credit history, you should be able to turn your secured card into a non-secured CC.

I guess, I still want to try for a reg cc from a different, organization.. before i do the "secured card"

Also, is there some type of rule that you cant apply for a cc after you were rejected? If i apply for a different companies card do tehy see that i was rejected?

Well if you keep trying it will keep deducting points off of your almost non-existant FICO score. I highly suggest not to keep applying and applying. If Amazon was your first, then perhaps another won't hurt but if you keep trying it will eventually end up hurting your credit.

I am gonna try for one more.. I will apply for my bank's cc, If I call and apply over the phone and tell them my situation is it possible they could tell me if i would be approved/disapproved before i even apply?

No, there is no real rule that I know about. No, the dont see that you were rejected. The thing to think about here is that you credit history tracks recent applications/requests for credit. If alot of these are done in a small time span it can raise an eye brow and caus the lender to think this person really needs credit bad. Then they ask why? Then it is followed by a summary rejection. Lenders look for people that know how to pace themselves and who dont make rash or impulsive decisions. I would say hold off on the credit applications for a month and in that time do some research there are tons of offers out there. goto www.creditcard.com. Its a great site for finding out what is out there.
