So I just ended my shift, punched out. Walked out to the parking lot, and there was a town cop sitting there on his phone, in his SUV squad car with what looked to me to be about a 19" monitor pulled up from his console. Walked by and nodded to him, and proceeded to get in my car and leave. I was never within about 20' of his vehicle.
So I hop in my car and leave, then notice he was behind me, following me for a while. Then right in the middle of a roundabout, he puts on his lights, so I proceed for a ways to get out of the traffic, and I pull over. After a minute he comes up to me, after I pull out registration ins. dl, etc. I said whats up?
First thing he says is how much have you had to drink? I say well, not a drop, just got off work. He says how long have you been working there, I say more than 2 years, is there a problem? So he says, when you walked by I could detect alcohol on your breath, I have very sensitive olfactory senses. Asked for my dl, I gave it to him, while he was on the radio saying "cancel code 2206" or whatever. Then he says "I can can detect NO alcohol on your breath, so I'm going to let you go now. I say "wow, that is really strange", he hands me his cop card and says have a nice day. Doesn't ask for registration or insurance.
Cliff notes
(1) cop in parking lot watches me get into my car
(2)cop pulls me over and says he smelled alcohol on my breath from 20' away in the parking lot.
(3)cop says he doesn't smell alcohol on my breath now, while I'm in the car
(4)cop says he is going to let me go
