Just got my sony PCG-U3. Dayam is this thing tiny. here's a few pics! The keyboard is pretty small and requires pretty nimble fingers to type on it . . . though over the past couple of hours I am getting really used to it. Finally I can really carry my laptop with me everywhere and whip it out in the middle of a bad movie and be productive! I sacrifice performance for portability as far as the price is concerned, but that is what I was going for (ultra-portability).
compared to a CDR
sitting on the desk in windows
compared to one of my other computers (19" screen)

I can;t wait till my firewire enclosure arrives so i can load some more software on this guy!

EDIT: NEW PICS!

side by side with the DVD case

It is small alright ... but is it convenient for a long usage ? ... tiny keyboard usually makes my hand painful after a few hour typing. But hey, it's definitely light to bring around in a 7 hour flight from JFK to LAX 🙂
Nice buy.

Specs are as follows:

TM5800 Crusoe 933 Mhz 512k L2 cache
512 MB SDRAM
20g HDD
ATI mobility radeon 8MB VRAM
6.4" XGA TFT @ 1024x768 (has a zoom in button to go to 800x600 in a second)
16bit audio (crappy internal speaker) (mic and headphones jack on left side)
1x Type II cardbus PCMCIA (on left side)
USB X2 (back)
Firewire 94 pin) X1 (back)
RJ-45 X 1 (back)
monitor dongle adapter (back)
Memory carde reader slot (left side)

currently running XP home.
I love this thing. typing takes a little getting used to, but I'm lovin it!

Mouse is in the upper right hand corner, and left and right buttons are on the upper left hand corner, so you hold it like a gameboy. The scroll (jogdial) is right next to the mouse/jpystick pad on the right hand side, so I can surf the internet very easily with this little guy. Typing isn;t too bad after some practice. I have really adjusted to it . . but I certainly can;t touch type . . .yet! 😉
It definately requires nible fingers for sure.

wow, thats pretty impressive.....whats the batery life? how much are these babies?

battery life on the standard battery is around 2-3 hours (depending on screen brightness mostly). With a VGA dongle and the 512 MB ram upgrade mine was $1835 shipped from dynamism.com.

I was wrong on the battery, I can actually get the battery to go to 4 hours by setting the brightness lower.
its friggin cool!
