And while braking hard, if the driver keeps a constant pull on the left paddle, the 458’s gearbox automatically downshifts in quick fashion, the speed and timing of each shift directly related to brake pressure measured in the master cylinder. It’s a neat feature, as each ratio is grabbed one at a time, often in a rapid machine-gun succession that makes you sound like Schumacher while allowing you to concentrate more fully on your braking and line.
