Thought I'd do up a little mini review.
I got this yesterday as a replacement for my ever skipping truck based CD player. I'm sure I could have gotten an in dash head unit for about this much or less but they I have to go through the install and such. And I want to be able to take some music and/or movies with me.
After deciding to bite the bullet after finding one review, I did some more research on MP4 players. Found out this was really just a rebranded Onda VX858, might be the LE but lack of FLAC support leads me to think not.
First thing I did after opening it was check out the pre-loaded video (battery came 3/4 charged!) - and the video quality I must say is nice. There was a little sync'ing issue but not huge and no ghosting that I could see. After doing a little rewind on the video it seemed to sync better for that play. It does support pretty decent and speeding fast forward/rewind.
I did a conversion of a few video files with the included software and I was surprised to say the least. The included software did its job very well and very simply. I'm going to test out converting different formats as I just converted 2 different AVI codecs. Took 2 Bleach episodes and my rip of Sin City, the first half of Sin City was already off on the sync. The Bleach episodes and the 2nd half of Sin City were near perfect. The image was great - slight stuttering (very minor) in a few spots but it didn't ruin the experience in any way.
The audio it self is pretty darn good, allows a few preset EQ settings plus a User setting. The included ear buds aren't horrible but not good either. Might get you by for a week until you get something nicer. I have some nice Sony can headphones I'm partial too but many like the nice and small style that's popular these days.
After getting over the good things there are a few bad points.
#1 - The UI isn't good - it takes some figuring out. Its simple but in a non-intuitive kinda way.
#2 - Doesn't seem to be a restart option on music or video - meaning that if you close it out or shut it down you have to start over.
#3 - Can't use the player while its charging. This is actually a big issue for me - as it means I have to charge it regularly.
#4 - The touch screen is a little iffy - actually wish this had more buttons.
#5 - Granted I didn't read the manual but I can't get the darn "Teris" game to play. I wouldn't think this was something I'd need to read the manual for but I can't get it going yet...
All in all I'm happy with this costing me $100 bucks --- I know I can get a brown Zune for that much these days but... I'm not a big fan of M$ nor was I really impressed with the Zune. Granted it has 7-8x more space...
