Wez, the P3 900 is too near the limit for that line of cpu's. It's just not very overclockable.

The Celeron (Tualatin) 1.1A can run 133+ fsb so you will get a lot more speed out of it.
I guess I was lucky to find a second hand P3-S 512k cache 1.26ghz and got a good adapter for it pretty cheap. Since I was ordering other items from them at the same time the shipping wasn't that bad a sting and I ordered on Friday - received the stuff the following Monday. Everything was just as they promised it would be too. It's not a very good website, but the prices & service are good.

So anyway, you can sell the P3 900 on the FS forum here on AT and buy a Cel 1.1A (Newegg) & adapter and maybe break even. (at least offset most of the cost)
Then run the 1.1A on 133 fsb for a cpu speed of 1466mhz.
It has 256K cache just like the P3 and the only thing I know of that they did to it is the cache runs at "latency 1" instead of "latency 0".
If you can get your fsb up to 139 that will give you a cpu of 1529mhz :D

Yeah the old Coppermine Celerons had 1/2 the cache of the PIII coppermines & also had 1/2 the bandwidth to the cache ,that last point was the big cripplier:(.
The Celeron T doesn't have those bad points:) ,it has the 256k cache size as the PIII(not S which has 512k) & the same 8way associative cache as the PIII.
In addition to the coppermine PIII the Tualatins both have data pre-fetch:)

Heh Heh... You should see how much used P3 1000 slot1 100fsb cpus's are selling for on Ebay :D

I just got my Slot-T for my Cel 1.1A, so I'm going to pull that P3 1000 now and then I'll be putting it up for sale.

Merely mentioning that I will have it for sale soon gets me a bunch of PM's - this is going to be fun ;)

I was going to sell my 2 PIII's over at the Overclockers UK FS forum but people are selling them dirt cheap their!:( ,I want to get a 1/2 decent price for them;).

Suppose I could try the FS forum here stating UK in the thread.

Assim1, I don't know what it costs to send a cpu from there to here but the one I just mailed to ColinP cost me less than $4 US.
Package sturdy but light and it should not cost much.
The FS forum here is a great place to sell computer hardware, and you know you will have help from your friends ;)

Hey, at least you got rid of it quickly - hopefully you got enough to cover the cost of replacement?

got enough to get a new 1.1A but didn't cover the converter costs.

However, the 1.1A and prospect of o/c to 1400mhz range got my system sold too...so all in all, a very good deal! (of course, I was selling the system to a friend so I sold it for cheap as well...lol...I'm glad I don't run a business, I'd lose money)

Sorry - fixed the link for ya, try again ;)

I'm using the intel HSF on it, I have a couple of bigger better HSF's here but I like the quiet intel fan ;)
