A down payment on a lease is simply paying some of the depreciation cost up front to lower your monthly payment.

This guy's loan payment when he goes to buy the car after the lease will probably be higher than the lease payment is now. Better hope it holds up well - or that $250 payment after 6 or 7 years will be real tough if you ask me...

Yikes! The dealers love customers like this guy. Usually the customer justs turns the car in - then it goes to a wholesale auction (like the one I work for) and gets sold at a wholesale rate. But when they can make retail on it? Phew...

I worked some numbers, and what you said about it costing about $500 more is about right, if the 10k is invested in something reasonable...


So your spending $500 extra money, and any sort of money you can make off investing 10k for 4 years. 🙁

I want a mazda6s hatch, but likely won't happen for quite some time, and by then I will probablly find somethign else I like.

the value of the car is already determined in the lease contract. at the end of the lease, i can purchase the car for $10,2k. I'm definitely going to go this route. =]

dont understand why ppl bust on leases so much
usually if u finance a 30K car u would do it for 6 years unless you put a HUGE down payment
so why not lease for the first 3 years and if at the end of the 3 years the car is still in good condition and u still want it
u can take the buy option and finance the rest for another 3 years??

this way wont your monthly payments be lower and you paid less interest??
