And I maintained my 4.0

But, but, but, my excuse is I work full-time too. :p

Great, no curfew, I can see all my friends and do whatever I want because I worked for it, no-one handed it to me on a plate.

I never bothered to get a 4.0 because ultimately, it makes no difference in your life. Besides, I had a life.

I personally didn't want to get a 4.0 gpa -- because then I would have been too perfect.

A GPA number by itself means nothing until it's paired with a school and/or major. If you got a 4.0 at U of Michigan's Engineering program that's awesome. But getting a 4.0 in anthropology at some community college means jack.

For me getting a 4.0 in high school would be harder. You have more classes in HS and at my school they make you take well rounded courses. Min amount of arts, math, englis, history, lang, gym, science.

My 4.0 days are long gone now that I'm in college. I was very surprised to see that I got a B in Physics. I got a B- on the first midterm, a C+ on the second midterm, and fubared the final (at least I thought I did). Thank you labs and homework! :D

Lol, never thought this post would get any replies. :)

I'm not single and I'm doing a BSc in CS. Believe me, when you are looking to get a job with a well known company like Ford, HP, IBM etc, the difference between a 3.7 and a 4.0 is whether you get the job or not - so it does make a difference in some people's lives.

My first post was taking the piss out of those people who have no responsibilities and are complaining about their hard life where mommy and daddy provide everything for them.

Wrong. I get the most co-op interviews (with well known companies like IBM, Motorola, Nortel) out of any of my friends, and I have less than a B+ average. It's ALL about involvement outside of school. Buzz words like "President", "Founder", "Elected", etc. are what counts. Grades aren't nearly as important as you may think. I have a friend with an A average (in Computer Engineering, so that is impressive) who has a hard time getting a job because of her lack of life experience and poor resume.

No matter what grades you have, you STILL have to get through the interview. ;)

BTW, CS is a joke :)

khtm, when you get out in the real world and you have a few years experience, then your GPA doesn't make such a difference. When you are a noob out of college then GPA is important.

Without a degree I got this job working for one of the top ten largest companies in the world. I have a great resume and give a good interview. I beat out other people with 4.0 degrees and slightly more experience. However, if you pit me against someone with the same skills as me and we are an even match except they have a degree, their degree will tip the balance until I get a degree. Many companies in the U.S. are not interested in you for any senior positions if you do not have a degree. The higher your GPA, the higher a position it is easier to get.

I am doing CS because it is what I know and therefore should be fairly easy for me. It is only a stepping stone for me to do my MBA. I will probably look at doing a BSc in Financial Mangement later on.

Wow - you really are uninformed. GPA makes even less of a difference in the real world then when you're in university. I'm not saying GPA makes no difference at all - I'm just saying that if an employer compares someone with a 4.0GPA and no other experiences or accomplishments (this obviously is not you at all), to someone with a 3.0GPA and tons of titles, experiences, etc. - who do you think will get the job?

I have even contacted a professor at the Harvard School of Business (which I was interested in attending, before I started engineering), and I asked him what he suggested that I do to gain entrance to Harvard. He told me NOT to go to Wall Street - because everyone does that. He also said that grades are important, but not as important as LIFE EXPERIENCES. Ironically enough, I've had several interviewers tell me they WON'T hire students with an A+ average because something is obviously lacking in their life elsewhere.

That was just a cheap shot about the CS degree, because I have tons of CS friends who I always get into arguments about the difference between our degrees. :)

BTW, without a degree I also have a job with one of the top ten largest companies in the world. And I don't have a 4.0 GPA. ;)

I just got my grades to finish out my last classes for my BA in Industrial Management. I maintained my 3.99 GPA(that damn comp I class, hehehe). Maybe this wasn't pre-med but, I'll have to say I worked fairly hard to maintain that GPA, working at least 6 or 7 days a week, and have a decent home life with my family, all at 44 yrs. old.

I do agree that CS is a joke, I finished all my required CS classes in my first two years and got a 4.0 in all of them.

Also have a great job despite my lack of degree and my lack of a 4.0. ;) It's not with a huge company, but I couldn't stand to work for a huge company anyway, and the pay is good.
