Yes. And no, it's super easy to claim your extended warranty. Just have your receipt w/ the AMEX number ready and you're set.

VISA's extended warranty 'saved' my [crappy] Dell laptop from the trash almost a full year after Dell's original warranty expired . . .
. . . i got $700 for it after they fixed it. :)

no hassle at all . . . basically it is just like an insurance claim. i keep *proof of everything* for all expensive purchases. ;)

Or you just don't spend money you don't have. There are ways to use credit cards responsibly.

Wouldn't that be the same thing as having a debit card then?

Except for extended warranties...cash back...having the ability to easily dispute an unauthorized transaction (rather than filing a RegE form at your bank and waiting 6-8 weeks for a refund)..etc...

"there's no comparison"

true . . . but i am beginning to hate that statement since it is usually applied immediately after a comparison is made. :p

AND . . . in a true EMERGENCY . . . try getting a cash advance from your debit card.
:Q

:D

and don't forget car rentals and free insurance,

Ok, seriously, who the F uses their debit card to buy stuff? People w/ no credit?

How about people that spend their money responsibly and don't carry cash? Wow, didn't think it was that difficult of a concept to grasp.

That's funny, I've been using CC since I was 17, never overcharged, never missed a payment, and collected a ton of cash backs. How do you not use AMEX for its extended warranty feature? How about the 5% cash back for gas? 3% for eating out? My debit card = ATM card.

Be careful using your debt card at the gas station. No swiping your card won't get you pricked with a needle containing the AIDS virus or spark a static electicity fire, but you could bounce a check if the station puts a HOLD on more money than you have in your account. Story

Order goes like this.

Credit Card > ATM card > Debit card.

You should not use debit card. Only carry credit card and ATM card.

O RLY? Your bank must suck. Mine offers full protection as if my debit card were a Mastercard. No more "hassle" than using my credit cards.

Sure. Of course. But have fun having your money tied up while the dispute is resolved. With CC dispute, you simply don't pay and no money is ever tied up.

Again... what a load of crap. The last two times I had a dispute one phone call to my bank returned the money to my account while the dispute was pending. Like I said... I'm sorry to hear your bank sucks.

But it has total security protection. I'm not liable for any fraudulent charges.

Good for you. Keep using your fake Visa or Mastercards. Just don't come crying when thieves or error drain your checking account and you can't access your money.

Yeah but you don't have access to your money while it's resolved. Fraudulent charges can cause your check to bounce, etc. Sure it will likely get resolved in the end but why deal with the potential hassle?

I won't. And since you can't read, I'll repeat it: I'm one phone call away from having the funds put back into my account. Your argument is pointless and circular, but thanks for playing. While I'm at it, I'd also like to point out that many banks (mine included) have automated fraud detection systems in place that reject and reverse fraudulent charges as they happen. As a software developer working on an authorization gateway using my personal credit card for testing, I found this out the hard way.

A couple of quick comments here. I use my debit card quite a bit, and I have never had an issue. My bank offers airline miles(points), extended warranties, $0 liability protection, and the last time I had a fraudulent charge I had a temporary credit the same day. I also don't have any credit card balances to pay interest on either......

And don't give me this crap about no credit either. I have cards I could buy a house with......
