I ordered this sucker over 2 weeks ago, and it finally arrived today. I got it from Portableone.com, who offers upgrades. I initially ordered the computer with a 4 GB RAM upgrade (from 2 GB) and an SSD (30 GB OCZ Vertex Turbo). I was contacted by the company who informed me that the 30 GB drive was not enough space to operate Windows 7. I didn't want to pay an additional $150 for the 60 GB SSD, so I went with a 320 GB 7200 HHD (stock comes with 250 GB 5400). I guess I can always replace the drive later.

So...I get it today, open up the box and am greeted with a nice new shiny black computer with a huge handprint on it...pretty f***ing unprofessional in my opinion. Upon further examination, I noticed that there is a long scratch on the cover. It is barely visable and appears more in direct light...but still, a brand new computer with a scratch on it? The RAM upgrade is some brand I have never heard of, called "Nanya" and is PC6400s, which runs at 800 Mhz. The N330 processor has a FSB that runs at 533 Mhz. I don't know if this really matters, but I usually try to match these two specifications.

I haven't even turned it on. I'm strongly thinking I should just return it. Any opinions?

Can you explain further? This is supposed to be a great combination, at least according to the reviews I have read.

Well thing is that Ion lowers the battery life a ton and adds a lot of heat. Also, the atom isn't really that powerful enough to make full use of the ion, can't really play that many games with the atom. The only benefit of ion would be encoding files.. not what a netbook should be doing.

Hmmm. Well the reviews I read say that this comp runs pretty cool...but yeah I am aware that the ION cannot be fully untilized. I have never really cared too much about battery life, seems I am usually plugged in, so that doesn't concern me too much. I bought this machine pretty much exclusively for my business, so gaming isn't a priority at all...though it would be fun to put on a few older games just to see what it can do.

In any case...anyone agree that this should be returned, or would you live with it? I still plan on having this machine as it's perfect for my needs.

Nanya is a known ram manufacturer, doesn't matter if it can run faster than your FSB.

I guess it depends on the size of the scratch, but shiny plastic netbooks and laptops get scratched up really fast, so I don't know if I'd bother returning it.

Thanks for that, I am a Corsair and OCZ fan, so was a little nervous when I saw a brand I didn't recognize...plus the upgrade was a bit pricey.

Maybe you are right about the scratch. I am rediculously anal when it comes to my computers and like to keep them like new, so this was very irritating to me. Just seems that the guy who upgraded this could have been more careful.

To anyone who has read this thread...

I called up PortableOne regarding my issue. They were immediately willing to trade my 1201N for a new one without any problems! In fact, they even put their last remaining black 1201 on hold for me while I decide what to do. Can you really beat that service?? I'm so impressed that I decided to hell with it, this little scratch is really no big deal and I'm just gonna keep this little guy unless there is another issue.

So anyone considering ordering a notebook or netbook should check out PortableOne.

As far as the machine, wow...this is the nicest netbook I have ever seen. Beautiful, really. I was concerned that the keyboard would suck especially since I have sort of large hands, but I can type on it nearly as easily as my full sized keyboard! Now that I am over my little tantrum, I am going to begin enjoying this new computer.

Thanks to all those who replied, it is greatly appreciated.

Corsair and OCZ are rebranders. Nanya is a real and actual DRAM manufacturer.

Heh... Corsair and OCZ do not make memory.

If this is your first time hearing of Nanya, perhaps it's time to take a look into Micron, Samsung, Hynix etc.

It would be nice to be able to disable a core and switch to an Intel integrated graphics solution at will... that would be ideal.

A dual core Pineview with switchable 9400M onboard would be ideal, and someone needs to make one.

Corsair and OCZ use Nanya chips.
