Microsoft has to license the rights to the planes in order to include them in the product. I'm guessing they had a licensing disagreement that they couldn't resolve.

That is, however, purely a guess, and I have no substantiation for it whatsoever.

Dreamfleet - Great 737-400 for 2k and 2k2, along with some of the best GA packages, and an amazing ATR on the way.
Phoenix - Airbus packages - A319, A320, A321 and A330, A340. 2k2, 2k4
Wilco 767 PIC - My favorite...this one is a gem. I love it. Its kinda old, but is still king. I suggest this, plus I can help you with it. 2k, 2k2
PMDG - Excellent 737NG package. 2k2, 2k4
Captain Sim - Great 727 package, 707 on the way. 2k2, 2k4

I have ALL of these, (well, whats out anyway). Feel free to ask me anything.

I dig that Airbus stuff, I'll have to check it out. There isn't a whole lot of flying you have to do in those aircraft though, it's just programming the computers. In modern aircraft you can pretty much put the pilot in a little glass box with "in case of emergency" written on it :)

I'm using FS2004 to practice for my instrument rating IRL.

MSFS is good stuff for basic IFR practice IRL, like instrument operation and procedure. Too bad it cant reproduce the terror that can come with flying blind; your mind and equilibrium telling you one thing, your instruments another. Dont follow the wrong one ;) ...I dont suggest it for things like your PPL....its close, but IMO, its different enough to kill you IRL if you try carrying technique from FS over.

IFR = Instrument Flight Rule
VFR = Visual Flight Rule

Use to be a private pilot, but never got far into the IFR section of FAR AIM.

My dad is a ground flight instructor on the 737-200. I've played with the flight sim :)

Tasteless.

They couldn't simulate a tire blowing and going into the intake causing it to crash?

Unless the FAA took away your ticket you're always a private pilot :)

While FS2004 is a great sim, they could (and should) have put so many more planes in it. Instead you get like 15 planes from the 1930s and a handful of modern day aircraft.

If only they could make FS2k4 into a military sim....

I also take issue with its horrible modeling of hurricanes and crazy flashing problem.

Other than those things, it is a very nice game that I enjoy playing, just not as much as I thought I would.

Official reasoning is incompatability with the ATC system introduced in FS2k2.
ATC vectors you around like a bitch, and then cancels your flightplan if you don't make those vectors - which is IMPOSSIBLE to do once you've gone Supersonic. You can, however, import the FS2k concorde and just fly VFR (Or IFR during takeoff and approach, and don't switch frequencies when you're instructed to so you can go to cruise without ATC cancelling your flightplan)

jesus h christ this game sounds ridiculously complicated.

Because it is. ;)

I'm guessing he's moving to a different bird soon? That -200 is becoming a thing of the past.
