Just got GTA3 on Friday but...

Me and my brother in law spent a good 20 hours playing it over the weekend... we just couldn't put it down (except during football ofcourse 😉) It's a great game... probably the most addicting I've played in a LONG time. BUT... does anybody else have a problem with it locking up? We lost our first 15 hours because it locked up when we tried to save the game one time.... it was taking an extremly long time to save and my bro in law turned the PS2 off and back on... needless to say the saved game was corrupted :|
It also locked up a second time when I died and respawned on that info thing infront of the hospital where it cuts in to that ambulance cut screen...
Anybody else experience these or did we possibly get a bad copy or something?
 
maybe if you didnt use your ps2 as a coffee table (spilling drinks on it n' such), it wouldnt do that. 😀
We had one save game corrupted, dont know why either... but only one.

Not only are we gonna do that... I'm probably going to start alternating memory blocks too. Better to lose one then lose everything again 😉


BTW... how many missions do you have to do before you can move on to the next part of the city?

Yeah I know about the PC version... the PS2 is his and it took a lot of convincing to get him to buy the damn game... then the last thing he said before I left last night was "this is the best car game I've ever liked." 😉 I'm probably going to get the PC version myself since it's coming out on my B-day... any idea if it's going to have multiplayer? I liked the original GTA... too bad multiplayer ran at about 2fps in everthing but the viper 😉
 
Agreed on the addictiveness, it's my pick of best game for '01. On the save game front, I never had that problem, and I saved almost after every mission. You wouldn't happen to have a launch PS2 by any chance, would you? I heard there was a bug in the first crop of PS2s that messed up saves :Q
 
I'm not sure if it's a launch one or not... I bought it several months after it was released @ www.playstation.com Kinda ironic that you couldn't find it in any stores but could order it from playstation.com no problem 😉
I've never had a problem with it saving games in Gran Turismo tho.
 
My GTA3 has never locked up on me but other games have.

Heres my 2 words of wisdom:
1) Disc Doctor, get it. It buffs the scratches off disks and makes them alot less crash prone while in the ps2.
2) The only good memory card (to my knowledge) are the default sony ones, others seem to corrupt far more easily.

Sorry you lost 15 hours worth of work, but luckily the game is fun to replay 🙂
 
It is an excellent game, I'm on the final island - not played it in the last few weeks though. FYI, I've never had a problem with it locking up/corrupt saves.
