Nevermind the fact that it is older than both my kids combined

Nevermind the fact the the replacement unit the SA8300 is older than both my kids combined

But I clearly asked for the SA8300 unit when I signed up for the service 2 weeks ago.

On top of this, the technician insisted he didn't have any 8300 in the truck

On top of all this. Comcast said they have to send a new technician out to swap them - I can't even drive to their office to switch. The earliest appointment they have that won't make me miss work is Saturday October 5th.

The most frustrating thing is I'm pretty sure Comcast does this purposely so they can recycle their crappy, ancient hardware. They make it next to impossible to get it right the first time and then put the problem on the customer to fix.

Not a good way to start with Comcast.

That sucks, I can go to the cablevision office down the street any time I want and swap a box.

Welcome to the joys of being a cable customer. It's not just Comcast, it's every cableco. That's the beauty of their being a localized monopoly.

Use their Live Chat Support and tell them that the box isn't working right. They'll let you switch it out at one of their offices then.

Find your local Comcast office & just show up.

They will swap it for you. They would have given you the box in the first place had you just shown up (saving you the tech install fee).

I got the salesman I worked with two weeks ago to waive the one time installation fee.

You should be able to just go to one of their offices and get the 8300.

I did that..but then again I am a TW user, not Comcast.

I didn't request it, I made it part of the deal.

But the customer support person I spoke to yesterday didn't have a problem with me requesting the more recent model. I even asked them to apply the latest firmware to it.

The first customer support person I spoke to said that DVRs cannot be switched out manually because they need a technician to install. It seemed a bit wierd so I called back and was told the same thing by another employee.

i can't wait till the HD Tivo comes out... I hate my 8300 HD... Had it for almost 2 years now, gone through 6-8 of them by now. The damn things are so buggy, freaking annoying.

They handed me mine at the Comcast office along with a remote control. I took it home and hooked it up with no problems (other than I hate the DVR interface that is). This thread reminds me I have to take it back to them and cancel the digital service.

they did that sh1t to me too. i took the wrong box the same day and showed up to a comcast store. they swapped it out for the one i wanted.

if i had listened to the CSRs and the install techinicians, i wouldn't have had the box i wanted for at least a month after the original installation.

Well it appears that I am a little naive taking their CSRs at their words. I will try to track down an office or store close by where I can switch the DVR for an SA8300.

I'm in Montgomery County and I just went down and got my initial box without even calling. Then I traded it in for a HD-DVR a week later. There's no way a technician needs to be there to install it. Unless of course the person can't plug in cables.
