I'm getting ready to install it after my run.

Any tips for a newbie?

don't be a plane camper. Go out and capture flag points. Change your role (Engineer, Medic, Assault, Anti-tank) as needed. Don't stick to one role the entire game.

If the game runs slow turn off music and hardware sound.

I'm pretty much a n00b too, but here's what I've found:

1) Get good with tanks if you want to succeed
2) It's extremely hard, if not impossible, to snipe a moving target. So, wait for them to stop and shoot them in the head. laying down imo is the best position
3) planes are hard to fly. Well, maybe not, but I suck with them and can't bomb worth crap
4) pistols and knives are pretty much useless

these are just my opinions, I could very well be wrong on all the above points :)

Planes are difficult to fly without a joystick. Even with one, it's hard to bomb properly.
You can heal up and get more ammo in the back of APCs.
Snipe people in the head.
Kill snipers first, rocket infantry second.
Lay prone in shrubs or by rocks.
Don't walk on hills or ridges, you're too easy to spot. Walk or drive on the other side of them, until you need to fire.
Don't fall off of high places. The fall damage is major in this game.
Don't hit anything with the vehicles. Even hitting fences can damage you.

It's a great game. My best class is the scout.

Why does everybody say bombing is hard?
I use 3rd person view and never miss... and I use a mouse too. Just have the sensitivity turned all the way up.

Planes are difficult to fly...I can't imagine flying without a joystick...and getting the hang of bombing is difficult. Dive bombing seems to work best for me...dive at a tank and pull up...just as you pull up drop a bomb. Torpedo planes can drop torpedos which do lots of damage if used right. To use one hover just above the water and let the torpedo skim down. It will hit ships and do major damage. 4 or 5 should take out most ships.

Tanks can run over anything...they're great for going over barbed wire fences. The biggest danger with vehicles is flipping them...be careful of the terrain. And watch your back and sides...those are the lightest armored areas of a tank. If you're trying to destroy a tank...always aim for the side or the rear :)

.

Use the parachute button, defualt '9' to help you not get hurt, also when you eject out of a plane, open that parachute..... took me a bit to have that button memorized for jumping out of a plane.

Don't move the carrier, left/right, when planes are trying to take off.

I love the sound the enemy troops make (scream) when I run them over with my tank :D

Also, get the blood patch...that makes the game even more enjoyable:D

Heh, yeah, I was talking more about jumping down hills and stuff. I get so used to UT, that I think I can fall 50 feet without being injured!

My favorite kit is the medic. The gun is good for close range, and the ability to heal yourself is very nice (walk thru barbwire and then heal yourself is quite cool).
But each kit has its uses, learn them and use them appropriately.

Don't camp at the planes. Practice flying and bombing on your own so you will know how to do that in a real game. I still haven't figured out bombing quite right, so it does take some practice. The planes are extremely powerful if you can nail those bomb runs.

The tanks are very good and different too. The Sherman is obviously a light tank while the Tiger is a heavy tank. That is, moves slower, heavier shell, more armor, etc... Learn how to drive, turn and shoot with accuracy. I'm slowly figuring out how to do that and its killer.

Sniping is hard for a few reasons. An upper body/head shot is required for one shot kills. And leading a moving target can be very difficult due to the netcode. Also, make sure you play on a server that doesn't zoom in on the you after you kill someone, because then they know where you sniped from and they will come after you.

And don't teamkill/tk!!!!!

Parachute Key is 9

Flying is 10 times easier with a joystick

yeah I've been using the blood patch for a while now and it helps a lot because it actually lets you know when you're hitting someone.

i thought this game had major issues - like shooting down airplanes with a rifle... thought the game inbalance took away the fun of it all...

This game really does rule :)

And flying the plane w/ a mouse and keyboard isnt that hard once you get the hang of it. It gets kind of annoying the first few times when you keep driving into the ground :p

only a head shot will one shot one kill. unless the guy is already injured or something. trust me i know from much experience (i'm almost up to 20 kills a game with the sniper rifle).

i HATE HATE HATE that it zooms on you after you snipe someone. i guess it makes it so you can't be a god and wipe out everyone, but it just nulls all that work to find that perfect spot and take ppl out.

this game is ADDICTING. so my tip is get some fud and drink and get comfy. :)

It has a single play campaign. You can play Allied or Axis.
You basically just play through the different maps for that side.

I've been playing the demo and it's ok. Some balance issues are bit extreme.

Like a grenade killing a tank?!?!

well one grenade won't kill a tank first of all. It takes like 3 or 4 well placed ones.

And that is going to be fixed/updated in the next patch. Tanks are going to take a lot less damage to nades.

All I know is this game is just pure fun! Yeah, some of the things (grenades blowing up tanks, exiting a fast moving jeep without injury and the leading) can make it unrealistic, but hey that's the fun part. I still crack up laughing, when a tank nails some infantry dude and he goes flying up twenty feet into the air.
