filmmaker and I just got back from vacation in West Virginia. We live in southern Indiana. Two of our friends who used to live here moved to Bluefield, WV (it's in the southernmost part of the state) to get new radio jobs.

I'm from the deep south, so I've never seen mountains before. That place is freaking beautiful. It's so much better than Indiana. The people are nice, it doesn't smell like dead worms, they give you free lemonade if it gets above 90°F, there are waterfalls, forests, and all kinds of neat stuff.

I took like 125 1800x1200 pictures, so I can't host them all, but I'll sort through the best ones and post them.

Our final time was 410 miles in 5:30. Not bad at all.

The lower the number, the closer to Indiana it is:

Sorry they're so spread out like this. It's just over 10MB, which is a pain to find a place to park.

And, yeah, it's nice through there...

Nah, we didn't stay very long. We got there Friday afternoon and left Sunday afternoon. We mostly just hung out with our friends. I'd move there if I could get a decent job. Housing is cheap as hell there.

Gas was $1.27. :Q

oh....and 1800x1200? What was the camera? And you can resize them down with like LView or something and then upload them.

Hmm...wonder if they don't use reformulated gas there? Guess not. I should head north on I-65 a bit and get some of the non-reformulated gas. My car's been running rough the last 2 weeks.

I'm not resizing 125 pictures ;)

Yeah, it was regular. I don't know if it was reformulated or not. Pretty cool though.

Thanks, I'll check it out.

It might not be 125 though, since I'm sure at least some of them are blurred or otherwise not good. I had to come back and go to work, so I haven't had time to mess with them yet.

filmmaker took some video. I'll see if I can't get a copy and post it.

Funny stuff. I have been to Bluefield twice to ski. Very nice mountain, but some weird people there. I noticed the one picture you had showed the Strip Club there called X-Sposure. Hard to miss when driving or walking around time. Glad you had a good time. You ought to go back during the winter and ski!

Yeah, the pictures aren't all that great.

I might go back in the winter. We'll just have to see what happens. Yeah, the people are kind of weird there.

looks like most of those pics come from I-77. Did you ever get out of your car to take photos :)?

I know where that is! :D

An even better shot, have to have your passenger take it, is in the 1st half of the bridge coming from the Indiana side. The view from the I-65 bridge is pretty sweet. Trouble is, there's no way for a pedestrian to get a decent shot from there (unless you're stuck in traffic due to a wreck or something).

Hey I have seen most of those places. I live in Huntington ;). Wv really isn't that bad aslong as you live in the civilized areas and even most of the redneck areas aren't that bad. Its just when you get into the back haller white trash areas that it can get a little scary. Places like in the documentary The Dancing Outlaw which if you have never seen is the best documentary ever made. Make sure you look at the other user's comments and read a little about it.

BTW I don't think the people are weird. You outsiders are the weird ones :).

Oh sure...you can drive to West Virginia, but you can't come to Virginia to see me. I see how it is. :|

I was actually very disappointed in how my Canon Powershot S300 did when it came to the quality of my photos. I'll have to show it some disipline next time.

Photoshop, here I come!

Sorry, we were really, really pressed for time. We only really had about a day and a half to hang out.

Oh man, I did some whitewater rafting on the Gauley River (in W. Virginia) last year. The camping grounds were great and the river was AMAZING! Soooo much better than the stuff they call rafting here in the tri-state area.
