Just got back from Office XP Launch

Whew! Just got out of that hell hole of a launch!

Well, got my free stuff though. Anyone want to buy Mappoint Software? hehehe....
Man they suckered me into goin to that thing. I was hoping to get the $100 rebate, which I did, but it's only for the Professional XP limited edition version (man how lame can they get!)

Got a kick ass pen! Decent new T-shirt (laundry days are here again), Sharepoint Portal SErver (only 120 day trial tho), and Visio. Man who the hell want to use Visio! Not me.

Their Sharepoint Portal Server seemed like a pretty cool thing. All I need to do is get a hold of MS Exchange Server and I'll be happy. Heheheh

Office XP does have some pretty cool features, but I'm just imagining the time it would take to set all of that up. If I'm not mistaken (someone correct if wrong) but you pretty much have to set up all of those 'neat' little smart tags.

Anyone else go? Of am I a supergeek! 😛

Going next week. Unfortunately(?) I will have to cut out early. Do they give the stuff out at the beginning or the end? I'm not going to bother to go and sit through their sales pitch unless I get my freebies.

I'm hitting on on Saturday as well In Madison, WI. Did they have any XBoxes on display?

You get a package at the beginning. During the first break, fill out the assesment thing and turn it in for Mappoint. Just tell them you have to leave. If its on a weekend, maybe to a wedding or funeral or something.

How long did the thing last? It's an 8 hour round trip for me to get to it, and I have a few other things to take care of while up there.

Was it under 3 hours?

frizzlefry, if its visio full edition and not a trial, i'll take it for free! 😉
The sad thing is i could actually use it...hehe

I suppose to go in Charlotte Saturday. They said you get a pre-release copy of Windows-XP, did you get that?
Did they show off the X-box?

Visio is trial version.

The cool thing was I got a free breakfast. Ate all the croissants and muffins my stomach could handle without the rest of it bustin out my arse.

Started at 8:30am First break was around 10am. Got my software and took off.

Man if you gotta drive 8 horus to this thing, you might as well stay for the whole thing. Drink all the coffee and juice you want. Plus you get to meet some interesting gee... I mean ppl there. I had this one black woman (not sterotyping or offending one here) and she kept all shouting out, like "NOW THATS A GOOD FEATURE" "HEY NOW THAT"S PRETTY COOL!"

There was an actually cool feature about powerpoint where you can create different animations on the page.

Let's say you put a clipart of a soccer ball on the page. You can then trace the path you want to to move and animate it. I think that was the coolest part I saw. Other than that, it's basically the same stuff. A few things are easier to use. Alot of MS product integration.

Let's say you want to have several ppl review a document (management) and you can send it out to everyone. Well with Office2K/97, you would have to set the track changes thing which I believe is about 2-3deep. Well if they just open it up from outlook, then they will already be traking changes and they can actually send it back to you with those chagnes. Nice and easy.

But it doesn't stop there guys! It gets more exciting.

So you get let's say 10 reviews back with a bunch of different comments. You can then merge all of these together into one document. Then you can select which comments to display and which to hide. PRetty cool feature if you ask me cuz from working on business plans and FDA, Patent stuff revisions are a real pain in the arse.

No Ofice XP. They'll send it to you. I'm already subscribed to DL it and I already have a couple beta versions.....

Sorry no X-Box either.

What a waste of time. That free stuff hardly seems worth it to listen to their new software that will somehow steal more of your freedom. Who the hell wants to call Microsoft for permission to install it after it was bought? Maybe I'm oldschool, but when I buy a piece of software, it is MINE.

I have it.. It is pretty much the same thing but with more "eye candy" as my friend described it. Also, those annoying tags pop up all the time when you type a date or anything. But, whatareyougonnado. its not bad

The XP software wasn't available at the launch event. There's a place on the evaluation form for you to mark if you want it sent to you later.

Freebie rundown:
T-shirt
pen with Office XP logo (decent)
small notebook (OK if you're into that stuff), has a bunch of coupons in it
SharePoint Portal Server CD (120-day eval version)
Visio 2002 Standard CD (30-day eval version)
MapPoint Promo/NFR version (lets you integrate maps with your data, doesn't look too useful otherwise)
coupon for $100 mail-in rebate on Office XP Professional Special Edition only, expires June 30.

I thought that pen rocked! Hehehe.....

Nice and heavy. Better to stab someone with! j/k

I guess I'll put mappoint up on egay just cuz i see the other ones going for like $50-100

Mappoint can be used jsut as a regular map utility. I believe it can find hotels and other stuff. But I think you can use it just like you would mapquest

Who would actually pay for a rebate coupon? Hmmmm... thought about it before I went. Maybe sell for $50?

Or better yet auction off on egay

I just got back from the one in Rochester, NY. The sessions were boring as hell, the food sucked, but hey, thats a nice pen! The map point software seems kinda cool too, I'll have to check it out. It was a good time overall, if only for the free crap.
