Just got back from my second AHL game of the season...

Well, I've been getting season tickets to the local AHL team, and tonight was the second game of the season. I'm soo glad to get my hockey fix. If the first two games are any indication..it should be a great year.

First game...

Manchester (LA Kings) 5, Worcester (St. Louis Blues) 2

Second game...

Manchester 7, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (Pittsburgh Penguins) 3

🙂

Our best scorer...

Yanick Lehoux

Game 1...

2 Goals...

Game 2

3 Goals (Hat Trick!)

It's cool to see the talent level of the AHL go up since so many young NHL'ers are playing in our league now.

For instance, we've got Mathieu Garon playing in goal. The Penguins had Marc-Andre Fleury in goal.

Now, on to the rule changes...

  • Permission of ?tagging up? to negate off-side plays
  • Implementation of ?no-touch? icing
  • Widening the blue lines and center red line to 24 inches and moving the goal line back to 11 feet from the end boards, adding space to the neutral zone
  • Employing a shootout to decide regular-season games which are tied after overtime
  • Goalies can only play the puck in a "restricted area"

Now, most of the new rules are pretty good so far...with one exception. The no touch icing should stay in college hockey. There were several times in both these games where a offensive player could have reached the puck to negate the offsides, but as soon as it crossed the line, they blow it dead.

I really like the tag up rule, and the goalie restriction I have mixed feelings about, but it's better than I thought it would be.

Anyone else getting their hockey fix from the AHL?

I used to get my kicks from the ECHL, but after a few teams moved out of the league/to different cities I didn't have any nearby teams left.

I loved it though. You can't beat center ice tickets for $8-10.

I like it........ it will make the game fast and cause some turn overs

Implementation of ?no-touch? icing
I like it ......... safer for the players eventhought the normal icing is more exciting for the fans

I like it ............. less 2 line passes called................ being able to keep the puck in the zone. 11 ft goal line is good....... almost like the days of Gretzky (10ft lines I think)

bEmploying a shootout to decide regular-season games which are tied after overtime
I hate shoot outs :|

Goalies can only play the puck in a "restricted area"
I don't like it......... if a goalie can play a puck let them.

Cheers,
Aquaman
