They had a real hard time getting it. They used like a hundred different tools to try and yank it out. Finally it did. So now I'm sitting here with gauge in my mouth, waiting for it to stop bleeding. Luckily he gave me tylenol with codeine, because they said its probably going to hurt a lot because they had such a hard time with it. I hope my face doesn't swell. :(

When I got my wisdom teeth extracted, the doctor had to reinject novacaine like 6-7 times on each side b/c she didn't hit all my nerves. Still hurt like a b!tch :frown:

It didn't hurt when they pulled it out, just a lot of pressure. I was really nervous though because this was my first time getting a tooth pulled. I was shakiing like a leaf :) I wonder how bad its going to hurt later. I already took a tylenol with codeine before the Novocain wears off.

I guess i have to wait til tomorrow to start that. Today I'm not supposed to rinse, spit (wtf?), smoke ( i dont anyways), eat hot things. I'll make sure to do that tomorrow though. Thanks for the suggestions, I was just going to rinse with plain water.

Just rinse with warm water with added salt. Sure it tastes bad (I hate salt), but it helps a lot. The pain actually shouldn't be that bad. The worst part is just waiting for the novacaine to wear off and the bleeding to stop.

You're not supposed to rinse with warm water, or maybe it was no rinsing at all on the first day. The warm water can loosen the clots that have formed. Also, no drinking from a straw, as it creates a vacuum, which can also loosen the clots (feel free to make comedic vacuum-related comment here).

I recently had my 2 upper wisdom teeth removed. I was also very uneasy going in as I had never had any teeth pulled either. Mine went about as good as it can possibly go though I think. Both my wisdom teeth were fully erupted (not under the gum, completely out and in place like a normal tooth), so getting to them was easy. Once they had me all nummed up, and started putting the tools in my mouth (uck, more jokes on the way), both teeth were out in less than a minute I'd say. Felt like he was poking this thing really hard into my tooth, then it was out and I was shocked at how relatively quick & painless it was.

I drove myself home, and it took a little while to get the bleeding to stop, and it was a PITA to re-apply gauze as I couldn't shape the stuff right as it felt like I was almost choking on the gauze. But the bleeding stopped for the most part after a couple hours post-removal. And I never once took any pain killers, no aspirin even, I just didn't have any pain really. The only thing that was sorta sore, was if I tried to open my mouth wide, as the spots were swollen a bit, and that caused some discomfort. 3 Days after the removal and I was eating pretty much anything/everything I had before. I put this off for quite a while, and now that it's over, it wasn't even remotely as bad as I was envisioning it might be.

I really need to get my wisdom teeth yanked, but I'm dreading the no-smoking rule. Maybe I can smoke through my nose for a day?

Well, you can't pull in the smoke, because the sucking pressure disloges the clot. But you can always hotbox a room with nicotine. :D

Your face will swell. Use frozen vegetables as ice packs. Buy at least two. Keep one in the freezer while you are using one for an ice pack.

Should I do it before it starts to swell?

Also, speaking of dry sockets. My dentist told me they're uncommon when teeth are pulled from the upper jaw. So generally speaking they're mostly a concern when a tooth is pulled from the lower jaw. And intensely painful I've heard as well. My sister was smoking within 30-60 mins after she had hers removed, subsequently she got dry-sockets and was in misery for a few days I believe it lasted. Follow your dentists guidelines strictly, and you shouldn't have many/any problems. When I got my wisdom teeth removed, I actually got this little 1 page printout with what to do on the first day, 2nd, and 3rd day, etc.

Yes. Absolutely. Keep in mind I am not a doctor.

I used to play a lot of Rugby and I would ice for 15 minutes every hour for the first few hours after getting a contusion. The most important time is the first 24 hours. After that it is less important (but still a good idea) to ice.

I'm still biting down on the gauze, but it seems like with more pressure on it its starting to hurt. but i have to keep doing it to stop the bleeding
