Hey, I just moved to California about 6 months ago. I still have plates/license from Ohio. I got a ticket today for not having seat belts, no Cali. license, no Cali. registrations (raped bad).

Can I claim I'm just visiting to get out of no cali license and registrations? I just paid to renew my plates in Ohio! How long can I stay in Cali before I have to register?

The same way Aimster's tires were slashed and his wheels stolen.

you can spend 30 days living in CA before you legally must have California plates. there is even a report-your-neighbor website for it.

Nosey people should mind their own business.... :D

OP: I moved from FL to MD back in '99 and got nailed for the out-of-state plates, too. It was a hefty fine, and I bet Califonia is just as bad if not worse. Fact of the matter is...you should have known better so you are screwed. Get your stuff switched over and pay the fines.

Why did you do that?
I would wager registration is much cheaper in Ohio. We have this problem in Oregon, people from places like Oklahoma register here to avoid OK's fees.

How does the state prove you've been in living there longer than 30 days?

Never ever ever ever tell a cop that you live somewhere that is not the address on your licence. EVER.

Problem solved.

I got pulled over for AZ plates when I moved back from Cali months later. I just told them I was visiting.
Of course, I was wearing my seatbelt.

It's your own fault for not getting Cali plates, pay up sucka and register in the right state, or you're going to get hit again with that fine by another cop down the road.
