I just installed the 1950xtx card into my system and downloaded the newest catalyst from ati's site. i tried to install the drivers twice and both times i got an INF error-video driver not found error. what the hell is going on? i heard the newest catalyst fixed whatever problems the last one had with this card.

it seems to work fine. i assume it's normal for the pc to say new hardware found every time i reboot until the official drivers come out. thanks so much.

You're welcome :)

The repeating new hardware thing I've not heard of so that's a bit of a mystery. Have you installed the 6.9 WDM and CCC components from ATI after installing the new modified drivers? Which I belive should be done. Or it could be something from the supplier package that's causing it perhaps.. :?

cheers

MXtra,

Code Basher is right, if you did not install the control center and other parts, then that would likely be why you kept getting 'install new hardware' messages. There are multiple hardware devices on these cards and each needs drivers etc. If none installed for each, then Windows will kept alerting you and it will probably cause problems.

If you did not download those other files, go to ATI but first make sure you have .NET 2.0 (check your add/remove programs to make sure it is listed.) If not, you will need to get it and it is the very first file, "Microsoft .NET Framework", under the "High Speed (Cable / DSL" category (Note: this is the only file under the "High Speed (Cable / DSL" category that you should get - do not get the other one.)

After having confirming .NET 2.0 or installing it, download the last two files under the "Low Speed (Dial-up)" category. The two to get are (1) 2 of 3 "Catalyst Control Center Only" and (2) 3 of 3 "WDM Integrated Driver Only." Do not get the 1 of 3 "Display Driver Only" because that is the X1950 problem one and what CodeBasher hacked and what you already installed. Also, make sure not to get the 2 of 2 "Catalyst Control Center Package" under the High Speed (Cable / DSL) category because they contains all three files.

Sorry if my message is too detailed, I just wanted to make sure all was covered.

thanks for the detailed instructions. funny thing is I haven't experienced any problems so far except one which probably isn't related. I played Prey for about an hour to break in my video card and it looks fantastic. Although, the game froze while loading into the main menu when I started it. I shut off everything in the background and tried it again and it worked fine. Company of Heroes looks sick too. I will install the other driver and ccc now just to be sure there's no trouble. Thanks for the help 9nines and Codebasher.
