Retail boxed 2.4A Prescott I just bought from Newegg. One corner pin next to the two missing ones was bent over nearly flat against the bottom of the CPU. Anyone else ever got one that was factory pre-bent? LOL. About 10 seconds work with a super fine needle nose pliers, better than new. Glad I wasn't charged extra for the factory breaking in. Haha.

It overclocks to 2.97GHz (165MHz FSB) on my MSI PT880. I think there's a BIOS glitch because it will not POST at all at 166MHz FSB. That same setup (mobo, RAM, etc.) runs my Northwood 2.53 at 175MHz FSB just fine (3.33GHz). Time to try this 2.4A in my Abit IS7.

you can use the tube of a mechanical pencil to fix those pins safely sometimes. My Mobile came with a couple bent pins and that's what I did, works fine now.

outpost.com is infamous for shipping them with bent pins, I've gotten one from the egg that was damaged too.

Fixing it was not a problem. Now running in my IS7 at 185MHz FSB, making for a 3.330GHz $126 CPU (what I paid, now is $125). Could run it at 189MHz FSB at 3.402GHz, but temperatures are scary-high (though still stable). I'm using a Zalman 7000AlCu without the FanMate and even at 3.33GHz and around 1.525v (set to 1.58125v in BIOS, but it undervolted) temps hit 75.5ºC under load, higher than the two Northwoods I've had in that board. Ah well, as long as it remains stable I'll run it that hot. I've heard that they have a thermal trip at around 110ºC, plus the motherboard will throttle at around 80ºC. No problem. So far so good on 3DMark03 and running various "office" applications. Tonight I'll start gaming on it.

Anyways, just thought it strange that a sealed retail box CPU would arrive with a bent pin.

Geez talk about bad luck. Hopefully your streak doesn't continue in the future.
