I just got a Toshiba Vista notebook and its loaded with tons of bloatware: stupid games, offers for ebay, skype, google, etc. I got most of it off but there is still some left. There are no more options in the uninstall software options and I dont know how to get rid of it.

I would love to just do a clean install of Vista but how would I go about doing that? Can I download a OEM version of vista and just input the cd-key?

Do you have the windows install cd's? If you do you can just reinstall it and reformat the harddrive.

Make restore discs. I know that Compaq/HP does it and there are separate discs for Windows and drivers/apps and you can pick and choose what to install.

If the OP has the restore DVDs that Toshiba ships with new laptops, they may not be very helpful. As I recall, they include the bloatware.

A friend recently bought a Toshiba and it came preinstalled with a lot of stuff, including Google Desktop. That just ticked me off.

Just delete those shortcus and type "msconfig" @ the run or start search option.

Go to the startup tab and disable all, except for your antivirus and mousepad options.

Formatting will erase LEGAL bundled programs that you need, such as the DVD player and CD burning software, as well as other nice programs such as MS Works, etc.

Sorry guys I went to bed early last night.

The notebook came with a restore CD and I'm pretty sure that restore CD will have the same junk on it as it does now.

No Vista install CD/DVDs were included with the notebook so if I format I will need to run the restore DVD and then I'm back to where I started.

As far as buying a cheap notebook and getting tons of bloatware.....what computer doesnt come with bloatware installed??

1st you post in the right forum.
2nd, if you don't know how to do it, maybe you shouldn't do it?

Start - Control Panel - Add or Remove Programs

Choose what you don't want on there.

Best way if you don't know what you are doing.

I just took Vista off this Compaq laptop I'm using today and put XP Pro (which was a pain in the ass because Compaq only gives Vista drivers). If I were you I'd find an OEM Vista disc matching the version you have and delete all partitions, including the recovery partition if it has one, and load Vista that way. Then put only the programs you want back on there.

And yeah, put this in the right forum man.

not that I'm endorsing this, but couldn't you download the cd and then enter your legal cd-key while doing the fresh reinstall?

It came with Vista Home Premium.....where can I get an OEM Vista disk so that I can install it using my cd-key?

wait, so when you get an OEM copy of an OS with a prebuilt laptop/desktop... do they include an OEM cd for reinstalls? cause that would be :wtf; if they didn't

What he said. Disable all the crap in startup. It's better to go to the actual program and see if there's a "start when windows starts" option. If not, then disable it in msconfig.
