Just got a new Logitech MX Air...you should try it!

Just picked one of these up after looking for a wireless mouse for my HTPC...I've got to say that after only a few hours of use I'm in love with this thing.

As a wireless mouse its excellent but the cool thing about it is the built in gyro which allows it to be used in the air...like the more popular Gyration mice. This feature works EXTREMELY well and I'd be hard pressed to find a flaw in it's usage. Gaming with it is also pretty cool once you get used to it. Playing first person shooters with the mouse on top of my head held in place by a base ball cap allows me to move my characters head as though I'm actually looking around...tacky I know, but awesome none the less.

Also has a interesting "touch" scroll wheel...no actual wheel but one that response with the sliding of your finger...think flipping through pictures or albums on the iPhone or iPod Touch. It acts a free scroll mouse, meaning if I slide my finger over it quickly the virtual scroll wheel will continue to scroll, much like the mechanical smooth scroll wheels in the MX Revolution and G9 mice by Logitech. Also, the scroll wheel "clicks" when "spinning" via a tiny built in speaker inside the mouse. Overall very nice.

The construction of the mouse is also very sleek and streamlined with an all glossy black casing on the top with all the lights glowing through the sleek almost seemless buttons instead of visible LED's that are on most mice with some sort of lights. On the bottom the case is a brushed steel casing that is actual steel and not just a paint job on plastic. Very solid mouse that could take years of use with no signs of it.

Has a basic wireless receiver and charging stand just like the MX Revolution and other higher end Logitech mice. One note however is that the charging base seems to be weighted and has a good amount of heft to it which makes it not slide all around when putting the mouse on the charger or taking it off.

Overall, very happy with purchase. Its a bit pricey but well worth it and I've found it to work better with MCE than the Logitech Harmony remote control that I was using before. Gaming wise it's very good...using the same laser technology found in the MX Revolution, however, just as with the MX Revolution there is no DPI change, but it appears to be rather high and works well with gaming.

The bane of all mice for me is liftoff distance, and this thing has infinite lift off distance. I think I would probably smash this thing against the wall. That said, it sounds like a very nice looking device, but I don't think it would be acceptable to me in any application and especially gaming.

What do you mean "lift-off distance"?

I think he means the minimum distance you must pick the mouse up off the table to be able to move it and set it back down without causing the cursor to move on screen.

Yea exactly. I do this a lot without thinking about it, and using a mouse with a large lift off distance is very frustrating. I have a gigabyte mouse I got for free with my motherboard and I simply cannot use it. Even in windows the mouse cursor just goes 2 steps forward and 1 step back every time.

Lift off distance is not a problem with this mouse...while using it on a table the lift off time is 2 seconds before it goes to gyro mode. I have no problems with lift-off...works just like a regular mouse...have you ever used one of these or just talking out yo ass?

I've never smashed the mouse in question against a wall before, that should give you your answer. Btw, to Logitech, Razer, Microsoft - please add in a feature where when lifting the mouse off the table/mousepad, it is detected and the mouse stops tracking immediately. This would be fairly easy to accommodate and would be even better than 5200 dpi. Thanks.

If thats what you mean...when in laser mode (desktop) the laser has a VERY low lift off distance...like the mouse basically has to be on the surface for it to move. So its no issue WHAT SO EVER...so even for you it would be recommended.

I'd like to pick up this mouse for my HTPC, but the $100 price just puts a huge hurt on my wallet when I think "All the damn thing is is a mouse !!!" but it is the best for an HTPC, no doubt.

Ohh, and official request for a pic of this thing taped to your head.
