Just got a new Jeep Grand Cherokee...

Jeep has a $3000 rebate on '03 models and on top of that, dealers are selling the car at invoice, so we got a pretty sweet deal on a new Laredo for my fiance (over $5000 off msrp)... She was looking at xterra's and other suv's in the mid 20K's, but when we found out about the rebate we jumped on it.

Sweet - I have always loved jeeps for their great designs (but I can't stand things like their build quality and their HORRIBLE MPG). My best friend has a 1999 Grand Cherokee Laredo and it's squeek-o-rama :)

Yeah, build quality and trannies have always been Jeep issues. But Detroit has to throw out the rebates and discounted prices to compete with the surging imports in this sector. The current Grand Cherokee design/platform has been around since '98 so just about every other manufacturer out there has already revamped at least once.

But they do look good though. Even Mitsu copied the Grand Cherokee to the max with the new Endeavor.

Yeah, I'm crossing my fingers. I had a '94 GC and never had any major problems, so I'm hoping this one will last. The price was too good to pass up though.

Well, don't those new Jeeps come with a 7-year bumper to bumper/powertrain warranty??

That's funny - one of my paralegals bought a GC Overland this weekend - now he and his wife just drive the GC and a Durango.

those are nice. wish my parents had gotten one in 94 instead of the minivan. i'd probably still be driving it. of course, it would have tons of flex :D

Note: Assuming you got the 4.0L I6 engine.
Had you had gone here before you made your decision you would have realized that the 4.7 V8 is a better deal as the engine is very smooth with plenty of passing power and, the gas mileage is almost the same as the 4.0. That said, the 4.0 is a great engine, change its oil regularly and it should last for a long time. Either way the JGC (actually referred to as WJ by jeep enthusiasts) is a great SUV. If you ever take it off road you will really appreciate its capability, ditto when it snows. Enjoy!

MPG is not so horrible:
My previous 95 JGC Laredo, 4.0L, I6 gave me between 18.7 & 19 MPG (overall). Not too shabby !?
My current 00 JGC Limited 4.7 V8 gives me about 16 MPG.

Re build quality, yes they have a bad reputation (somewhat justified) but the current JGC are much better. I have no problems or squeaks with mine. FYI the GC is one of the very few SUV's that utilizes unitary (monocoque) construction - no separate frame & body - so it has a very car like ride and its fun to drive.

My next vehicle? probab another JGC.

No that was only offered in the last year of production of the previous generation Grand Cherokees - in 1998.

That's the one I got:) I love it...

Still though, the new grand cherokees w/o new V8 will own any explorer, 4 runner, pathfinder, basically anything that's not a luxury SUV out there. When I got my car I wanted the fastest SUV I could get that wasn't a typhoon or cyclone(I dont' remember which one was which). Anyways, thank you spam heh

If it were mine, I probably would have gotten the V8 (I had a 94 V8 laredo...loved it), but it was for my fiance who didn't care how many cylinders the engine had as long as it ran. A couple of other issues came up when we were looking for the car... first was money, adding a V8 would have put another $1000 on top of the cost... we were already pushing our budget, so that was not a priority. Second, we went to about 3 dealerships, and there were no '03 V8 laredos in patriot blue left (she wanted that color). Anyways, we are very happy with the car.
