Nah...you made a good choice. All that matters is you are happy... 🙂

As for manual, I don't think you can say it's "on the way out", but it is true most want automatic...why...I have no idea. I've never had an automatic, and never will. Certain cars, especially sport cars, should only come with standards IMO. Would you want a Ferrari or Porsche with a automatic?

Manuals are just so much more fun, and even today their fuel consumption is almost always better than the auto option 😀

I agree with both of you...and its sad to think that many people do not know how to drive a manual and that most won't! They are so much peppier and you really have a feel for the engine and the power that is produced and transfered to the wheels.

I'm a big fan of the Mazda6, but I much prefer manual. A friend of mine has the Mazdaspeed6 and man, that was sexy.

Hopefully this is ok Jawo, but in the spirit of this thread I'll post some pics of mine... If you would prefer I don't, shoot me a pm and I'll edit the post. 🙂

Anywho...here is my MS6 when I got it...

Now, switch the bulging tail lights out for the Japan spec ones, throw on some new rims, tint the windows, and change out the long whip antenna with a smaller one from a CX-7, and you get...

Modified

No problem at all...Nice Car!! I've been thinking of replacing the whip antenna with the "shark fin" type....but thats about all for now.

Just a FYI. If you use the radio at all, be aware the shark fin will have less reception than OEM. This may not be an issue if you live in a area with lots of strong signals. Another option is the antenna from the CX-7...you can see it on mine. It's reception is almost exactly the same as the OEM whip...although it is a smidge less sensitive. Just another option to consider... It's only $14 through your local dealer...

Nice car! I want one myself. I wish I could convince my wife to buy one, but she insists it "looks like a boxy old lady car." LOL. Whatever.

If the Mazda 6 is "a boxy old lady car" what does the Honda, Toyota, Hyundai, Kia, Buick models look like? IMO, if you get her in a 6, she will like it...now the trouble will be getting her in a 6. I have had several friends family who were pleasently convinced otherwise (thinking along the lines of your wife)!

Look through some of the posts here Its pretty highly rated by the IIHS, one of the cheapest cars to insure, Edmunds most wanted 2007, etc

I know all about the 6, you're preaching to the choir on there.

Oh and those other cars you mentioned are "boxy old lady cars" too. Don't get me started, I'm about to tell her to just walk to work.

I just got the 2005 Mazda6 hatchback and the car's in great condition. One thing I noticed that the friggin clutch pedal is just too high. Much higher than the brake pedal. I'll have to get that adjusted. The other thing is that the radio reception is atrocious. It's almost like not having an antenna. My G35 pulls is all the stations but this car can only pull in 2 and if you go half a mile, they start fading away. I have the shark fin antenna as well.

BTW, what is that antenna, above the rear view mirror on the inside of the car?

I'm not sure what antenna you are referring to, however my rear view mirror is one of those with the compass in it, so it might be something for that.

As for the clutch...adjusting is super easy. Here's a walkthrough for a Speed6, but I believe all 6's use a similar setup...

Thanks.

My mirror doesn't have a compass in it. I was talking about the antenna shown by the arrow in this picture. Its tucked in the cavity between the windshield and the roof upholstery.

Edit - nm. Just found out that its the antenna for the satellite radio.

Nice choice. I had a Mazda6 as a rental and the suspension was impressive. The only thing I didn't like about it was the motor. It was the 4-cylinder and was horrible. Made a lot of noise but didn't accelerate for anything. Good job on getting the V6.

Finally convinced my wife to get a Mazda 6 so we're looking for a used one. The problem is, every single freaking used Mazda 6 used to be a rental. What's up with that? Are they the new Chevy Malibu or something? I've ran carfax's on over 25 used 6's in our area and every single one is a former rental.

Does this car have an AUX for an MP3 player?

I am comparing the Mazda 6 hatchback vs the Mazda 3 sedan, both Grand Touring models. Not sure which car to get at the moment. If I am not mistaken, they both have the same 4-cylinder engines, which I intend to get (that is the only choice on the Mazda 3).

Any input?

I think it is the same. One thing I to look at is the air conditioner. The air conditioner the mazda3 is, well, close to pathetic (on really hot days, people in the back seat will suffer). I hope it's better in the mazda6.

Another thing is gas mileage on an auto. The 3 auto is all over the place. Some people get really good mileage, some people get horrible mileage. I, personally, get 19 - 20 mixed ( i am gonna get this checked on Tuesday, though) and some other people claim to also, but other people claim to get 24-25 mixed. If I had the mazda6, I could only imagine how low my mileage would be. Just a heads up.

I had a Mazda6s wagon auto for a couple of years. I averaged about 23mpg (50/50 mix) but probably could have done better. The A/C was fine, no complaints at all.

The air conditioner on my 2005 Mazda6i is chilling cold even on the lowest setting. The gas mileage seems great compared to my old 240sx. It probably averages around 28mpg for me on mixed hwy and local driving.
