As you are now using Ubuntu, this thread is no longer necessary, and is in the wrong forum anyway.

Isnt the whole idea of a Macbook to run OSX? I'd suggest using that. If it didn't come with the OS rescue discs, go get them.

Ubuntu would probably work OK.

Here is the general Ubuntu on Intel Mac page: <a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Mactel...eam/CommunityHelpPages"><a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MactelSupportTeam/CommunityHelpPages">https://wiki.ubuntu.com/.........unityHelpPages</a></a>

From there go down to Macbook 4,1 and choose either 9.04 or 8.10. In both cases it seems like everything will work except the 56k modem and the remote (big deal).

But really if you're not going to run Mac OS X on it, unless you got a really good deal on this machine you're kind of shooting yourself in the foot. If you insist on being legit, just buy OS X. It's not that expensive.

BTW wrong forum, this should be in All Things Apple or in the notebooks one.

Win Vista of course! 😛

OSX duh, not like every machine they make doesnt come loaded with it so its technically licensed. Just make sure you use the version that was to be shipped with it

I'd say that if you can get your hands on OSX, use that. If you have to go free though, I would go with Ubuntu.
