Got a sales call from Time Warner Cable offering me a free month of their Digital Video Recorder.
After the free month, it goes up to $9.95 if you want to keep it.
I don't watch enough TV to justify paying for it, but I wanted to play with it for a month.

Just hooked up the box......this thing is way cool!! :)

Yeah, I bought a ReplayTV and after getting over/dealing with some of the quirks I luv it.

I hardly ever watch live TV anymore, just isn't as convenient.

One of the big reasons we went with Dish Network is that they threw in a PVR for only $50. The equivalent 60-hour Tivo, etc. models cost a good bit more than that. Granted, they might offer a few extra bells and whistles, but I get all the functionality I'd ever need out of it anyway. I'm definitely loving having this thing. You have to break your existing habits though. Now when I need to get up I sometimes forget I don't have to wait for commercials. I can just pause and come back at any time, etc. Definitely been a nice feature to the service.

I've got a Time Warner DVR also but I'm not very impressed with it. It's sometimes excruciatingly slow to change channels, it sometimes has visual artifacts in recorded video, and if I ever pause or rewind live TV and then try to watch it, I get hiccups and random pauses. Not to mention that the hard drive in it is very loud, even when the damn thing is off. It's a pretty poorly executed product... I'm going to be returning mine any day now.

Think sopranos, only about mexican drug lords.

I wish I could buy TV's with built in PVR functionality. I don't need the guide or the season pass stuff, I just want a TV with a built in DVR that I can set to record stuff like a real VCR and pause live TV. Tivo is great, but I don't use all the extra stuff.
