Hello,

I just received the Epox 8K7A and have a few questions:

1) Where can I get an updated BIOS (if there currently is one) - nothing is listed on the Epox site
2) I take it there is no need for a temperature probe to check CPU temperature? Maybe I'm just too use to my Slot A...
3) I'll be using 2100 DDR memory, are there any jumpers I need to change to make full use of this speed, or should everything be set automaticly in the BIOS?
4) Does the VIA AGP vxd driver need to be installed? And are all the drivers on the CD necessary?

Thank you!

I can try and answer some of your questions

1) There is a beta BIOS out but I have found it to be slower than the shipping one , here is a link to it

http://www.athlonmb.com/files/epox/8k7a/8k7a1521.bin

2)There is a temperature sensor in the socket itself , use a program like Via Hardware monitor or Motherboard Monitor 5 to monitor temps

3) To run a FSB of 133 and above you will need to change the position of the JCLK1 jumper (located next to the DDR voltage jumpers) , page 3-6 of the manual

4) All the drivers I needed to get it going were included on the CD.

In answer to question 4, you do not need the Via AGP VxD driver, you need the AMD AGP miniport driver that is included on the CD. You also need the Via IDE driver and you can install the USB driver if you want. Install the onboard sound drivers only if you'll be using onboard sound. You must also disable AC97 and Legacy Sound Support in the BIOS to properly use a PCI audio card.

Good luck!

Thank you all for the replies. I'm going to be using Windows 2000 SP2, is the IDE driver needed (I'll be using a UDMA 100 drive)? I recal reading that the Win2k IDE Bus is faster, but maybe I'm wrong.

Further to all the above good info, there is an Epox monitoring program on the cd for temps & fan speeds.
