Just got 8800gtx seems to be messed up

I just got my 8800gtx today and figured I would run 3dmark06 to see how it did compared to my dual 7900gts. Well my 7900gts scored around 5k and my 8800 is scoring at 2876. When I wanted to run SLI with my 7900gts I had to turn on dual video in my bios. Do I have to do anything like that with this card? I downloaded the latest drivers from nvidia. Any ideas?

One other weird thing in ntune if I got to adjust gpu settings and do 'find optimal' it will say 547 is optimal when the default settings is 576 for core bus.

I dont see how the cpu bottleneck would cause lower scores than his 7900gts. And if he's running 7900s in sli ok, I'm guessing his psu is probably fine.

I'd suggest turning off all sli settings and making sure you've got the latest drivers that support the 8800gtx.

The first thing I did was install the new drivers from nvidia website and i'm pretty sure all my sli settings in my bios are off.

That Inquirer article is bullsh!t as usual. 3dMark 06 only run at around 1280x1024 w/o AA, which is why it gets CPU-bottlenecked. You aren't going to buy a $600 graphics card to run at such low resolutions without any details turned on. It will not be cpu-limited with real games at real-world settings.

I don't know whats wrong with yours, I got 9000 3dmarks in 2006 version with a conroe 2.13ghz and I'm using crappy asus drivers for x64 and I have an XFX card.

To compare, the 7900gto card I pulled from the system was getting like 5200 3dmarks.

It could be a problem with the drivers m8. Iwanted to ask this as well..Dunno I installed first the ones that came with my GTX and everything worked fine. As soon as I downloaded the 97.02 from Nvidia website and installed them I got a severe performance drop. Something in the drivers must be messing with the clocks..So I reverted back to the cd drivers and everything is fine again..

Weird issue..

Try using the drivers that came with your card and give us some feedback, I'd like to know as well if I'm the only one that has this problem..

Still seems too low for 8800GTX.. Did you check in dxdiag (start->run->dxdiag) if all display options are enabled?

I got about 6100 with my 8800GTS which seemed low to me, so I would expect the GTX to be even higher.

All 3 directx features are enabled in dxdiag, AA and AF are application controlled.

Under 3D settings these things are off

I know you probably did this and is basic but did you uninstall your old drivers before installing the new ones?

Pretty sure I did a clean install but incase I didn't I gave it a try. This time after installing the new drivers I got an error saying nvidia sentinal is reporting my card isn't getting enough power so it's going to reduce the performace so it won't overheat. My plan was to buy a new computer in a couple months, I like to buy pre built computers so I would rather not buy a new power supply. What about those add-on things for power supplys that give them more power? I saw something about them on the forums can someone link me to them maybe give me some information on it.


I went back to the drivers that came with the cd and it didn't give me that error. Is there any chance maybe it's just a problem with the new drivers and my power supply is fine? In my old computer when there wasn't enough power going to my card the error would come up every time i started up windows. It didn't do that here.

I'm getting 7200 in 3Dmark06 with a 8800GTS on a 4200x2. Did you switch the pci-express slot back to it's full bandwith (x16)?

I'm guessing thats in bios? Never messed with it with my other cards. Got 5323 in 3Dmark06 with the original drivers which is 3k less then earlier with the same drivers.

Im having the exact same problem.

When i first installed the drivers i got a power warning. I dismissed it but it has never come back again. I am using the latest drivers from nVidia(6.14.10.9702)

I am also getting in the 2000s in 3dmark06.

My system is as follows
750W Silverstone Zeus PSU
E6600 Core 2 Duo @ 2.4GHz
2GB OCZ DDR800
eVGA 8800GTX
eVGA nForce 680i SLI
WinXP x86 SP2

All power connectors are connected correctly. This was a fresh system install I completely wiped the drive when I installed the new components.
