I just sold my X800XL and got my EVGA 7800gt. All of my games worked fine before with the X800XL (minus the crappy frames) , but now they almost all crash.

1. S.C. Choas Theory
2. Swat 4
3. Battlefield 2
4. Farcry

(All Nvidia Games!?!?)

Now that I have my Nvidia Card help me with drivers!!! It seems the 81.85s are designed for SLI setups according to the driver notes.

Thanks You

check your video card bios.... go to the EVGA forums and see if there is an update. I had this problem and the bios update fixed it.... Also, did you use Driver cleaner... yada, yada?

yeah before anything else, Id check to see if there are residual ATI drivers in your system/registry. ATI and nVidia drivers don't play well together.

I am an avid DriverCleaner user, so that rules out that possibility. I've been switching between ATI and Nvidia for years.

But anyway, should I roll back to an older driver? I've read alot of driver notes, and none of them mention the 7800gt.

QFT

I could not get any 80 series drivers to work, they would lock up randomly in everything but 3dmark05 where it wasn't random it was always about 5 seconds into the CPU test. After wiping my O/S I went strait to the 80.85 and haven't had an issue since. MAking sure the registry clean and all the files are gone even when switching form one drvier version to another within a single manufacturer is important, going from ATI to Nvidia it should then become a requirement.

Similar problem. Went from a X800XL to a 7800GT, then 7800GT's SLI'ed. I'm pretty sure it wasn't driver related, though.

First off, I was upgrading my RAM, but had to use a crappity stick of Corsair value RAM 512mb until my new stuff came in. At the same time, I threw the 7800GT in. Crashes galore. No game would play for more than 10 minutes. Once I got my RAM, the crashes are much less frequent, but still occured (especially when I left my PC unattended).

Then I got my Abit AN8 SLI, and SLI'ed the 7800GT's. Forgot to order AS5 to resit my CPU, so I left it at near stock speeds. Forgot to turn off cool n' quiet with the slight overclocks, so any crashes thereafter were caused by that. Got my AS5, resit my CPU with the Zalman HSF, haven't crashed since.

Still going to grab a SATA150 harddrive.

So you never have a problem getting into any of your games? For some reason my games crash right after I start the game, but if I make it past a certain point, everything is fine. But during the opening of a game (logos, intro) it will kick me back to the desktop, but if I try it a few times it will eventually work and then run fine for hours.

Splinter Cell Chaos theory is the worst, it will take me 5+ tries to load it and when I finally get in - all of my video settings are reset

I've already tried uninstalling and reinstalling a few games and it doesn't help.

Yeah I tried a few now, and the 79.11 are the best I can find. I will try the 78.01s also - thanks for the tip!

This is a myth... if there is no ATI card in there the driver won't load.... and vice versa for nVidia. I swap all the time and never use cleaners.
