yeah seriously.

after all that i finally got a hunch that maybe the card was outputting to my tv and there it was. switched the outputs on the back of the card and fixed!

it would be nice if they told you that when installing their drivers, it may disable or switch one of your dvi outputs


ahhh well. i havent reinstalled xp in forever, and that is through one mobo change (p965 to x38) and goin from nvidia 8800gts to ati 3870 recently so it was probably a good thing. but still.

what a pain! ive been reinstalling proggies all day. almost done finally. now i have a lean mean install again. and i added another 30gb to my apps partition so i can have more games installed at once.

phew!

Cat 8.5 solved my freeze up problems with WMC and my ATI 550. I am impressed, almost bought a new tuner card.

Catalyst 8.5 installed fine as usual and I can confirm at least a 50% performance improvement in Stalker- it's great! Areas where on Vanilla Stalker (no shader mods) I was at 25fps, I am now comfortably at 35-40FPS- happy camper .

can anyone point me in the direction of a good driver cleaner program(free) that I can wipe out all my old drivers before installing these.

I always use the Catalyst uninstaller, never had a problem with it.

I finally got my old 9700 video card (in analogue mode)to work at native res (1680x1050) with my Belinea 102035w 20" WS LCD and official CAT drivers,problem was there was no option for that res in CCC panel or monitor tab,even after I installed the inf monitor driver files in WinXP(this is on my backup PC).

Funny thing was I had no problem when using Omega drivers,the 1680x1050 was always there for VGA input.

I tried the usual things list all resolutions etc...checked refresh rate(even tried changing that).

Anyway the fix was kind of weird,I had to connect my DVI cable as well ,suddenly I had 1680x1050 res pop up as an option,I made sure everything was set at 1680x1050 res then disconnected the DVI cable and let the VGA cable take over,that fixed my 1680x1050 problem.

If you are wondering why I did not use the DVI cable on my 9700 as main input ,thats because its used on my Nvidia 7800gt card which is on my main PC.
