Exactly. I am so often pissed off at fellow colleagues and how they use work facilities for personal reasons. Especially when it screws up their system and we need to fix their computer as a result. But as noted by someone else already, the entire IT department doesn't practise this same policy 🙂

He copied them to his data directory which happens to be mapped to a main data server that's backed up on the tape (kept for six years).
Now, having personal stuff on the company server is not a good idea, and something of this nature could get him fired...... :/

Just get rid of the evidence for him. I've found stuff on our servers of that nature (never video) and I just delete it. If someone keeps sticking stuff out there, I'll warn them privately. That has always ended it. If it were to continue after that, then I would report them.

Unless you're their manager, it's not cool to mess with someone's job, especially for such trivial things as his own pr0n collection.
I've seen the same thing on my network and I usually pull them aside and give them a good talk. This can be used for leverage later. :evil:
Now if they have kiddie pr0n, by law, you do need to report it, no matter who it is. :|
You company should have procedures and policies for such incidents...

seems like some people are angered while others are laughing. so it just goes to show that I can't please everyone.
the company procedures and polices for this type of incident is pretty harsh and calls of immediate dismissal. and we just found out that he's only a contractor, so he won't be able to appeal it. he's getting escorted out immedately. 🙁

obviously because he wanted to. Otherwise he could have deleted it, told the guy and went on with his life. Sh!tty thing to get someone fired over. I bet Pepsei feels real proud of himself.
Here at work I have found ripped DVD on the file servers. We run bindview reports regularly to find that stuff. I find it sufficient to just tell the person. I keep records, but leave it at that.
