I just found out how much my first laptop was when my dad purchased it back in 1997...

I have the 755TX model...
Now that may be fine and dandy if you took care of the laptop but....
While I did take VERY GOOD care of the laptop for the most part, back in mid to late 1999 or so I realized my laptop had very ****** video card and was slow, so I wanted a new one.I can't recall correctly but I believe I "spilled juice on it" and attempted to blame my sister for it so that I could get a new one. I tried to repair it after I did the deed but for some reason I couldn't really fix it.
When I think about it now, I wonder if it was REALLY broken or not because it still posted but refused to boot. So I ended up getting a newer laptop which was a bit faster (150MHZ to 333MHZ PII), DVD and still had a ****** video card... (I was not able to choose this laptop either...)
Then my dad got an even newer sony laptop at 600MHZ which I have to say was at least 4X faster despite only having 300MHZ more so I switched the laptops and he never noticed. Again, with the crappy video cards... So finally I got to choose my own laptop last year which is my current T42 and it comes with a decent video card.
Summary of post: I =teh douche.
I wonder though, had he not only let me choose my first laptop and I had known the price, would I have done this or not. I do know for a fact that had I been able to choose my second laptop and it had decent battery life, I likely would have not upgraded to the laptop I have today because basic 3D+being able to watch a 3hour movie is plenty sufficient for me.
