Just found out my dad died

Fuck man - I'm really sorry to hear that. I lost my dad earlier this year so if you need anyone to commiserate with let me know
 
I've never lost a person that close to me (through death at least). Sorry to here man. Be there for your mom and she'll be there for you.

By the time they got back to him he drowned. My mom doesn't go out in the water as she didn't learn to swim until she was 30, but my dad loved the ocean. If he could he would spend every day sailing, wind surfing, or any other water activity. At least he went out doing something he loved to do. I got the call a couple hours ago after it happened from my mom who sounded like a wreck on the phone. Working with the embassy there to get her and the body back home.

Awful man. My mother's birthday is the day my dad became acutely paraplegic because his lung cancer came back as metastatic disease. Life certainly can lay it on thick from time to time. Best wishes to you and yours during this time.
 
You, your Mom and family have my condolences. On her birthday, no less.

Take care of yourselves, especially your Mom.
